Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey
Slightly better in second match but it was still a 2-4 loss from being 2-1 up at half time against Australia.

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey
With Naveen Babu out Odisha would probably withdraw support for hockey and other sports he was supporting. This is not good news for Indian hockey. Someone else has to step in with money and infrastructure.

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey
This was the saddest outcome for me, at this election. I have no opinion on his politics, but he was great for Indian sports. Hopefully all the infrastructure built there by him for India won't be wasted now.rajitghosh wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 1:30 am With Naveen Babu out Odisha would probably withdraw support for hockey and other sports he was supporting. Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey
The good news is that the new BJP led Odisha government has decided to continue the sponsorship of the India hockey team. In fact they extended the tenure by 3 years from 2033 to 2036. I guess it may have something to do with India's bid for the 2036 Olympics where obviously they would like to put up a great show.

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey
That is good news. But who knows how sincere they are. Naveen babu was sincere about helping Indian hockey.

PR Sreejesh to retire from international hockey after Paris Olympics
Wow, he really seems to have come from humble background.Sreejesh talked about his childhood, where he shared details about his schooling and the sacrifice his father made, which ignited the fire in him.
"From the modest beginnings at G V Raja Sports School, to this momentous journey that has defined my life, every step has been a testament to dreams, determination, and the support of my loved ones"
"I still remember my father selling our cow to buy my first kit. His sacrifice ignited a fire within me, pushing me to strive harder, dream bigger," he added.
Hope he somehow gets his second olympic medal to end his career.

^^^ Nice originality there, with all those comic book drawings he tweeted, on his history. Great

If India want to win Olympic medals, need to score more field goals: PR Sreejesh
"When you have better options to score from penalty corners, why should we waste our opportunities? But if we are thinking about the next level for the Indian hockey team, if we wanted to win Olympic medals, we need to score more field goals as well because defence has got some limitations," he said.

"Most the times, when the forwards are getting into the circle the first thing that comes into their mind is to go for a penalty corner because that's what we are good at. I am not saying that our forwards are not trying to score field goals."India scored 15 goals, of which 9 were from penalty corners and 3 were penalty strokes. Sreejesh, who retired after the tournament, told PTI that the forwards look for a PC the moment they enter circle rather than a field goal. The retiring goalkeeper said that if India wants to go to the next level, they need to look for more field goals.

“I will be around for sure”: Craig Fulton, hockey coach, commits to being around for LA ’28
“Yes, I will be around,” replied Fulton. “We need to study this campaign and take our lessons. First, we have the Asian Champions Trophy in September. A different set of boys will play and they are training in Bengaluru. This team is busy with the celebrations and after the 25th-26th, we need to get them back to the camp and start afresh. It is a tricky tournament and an important one and we are defending champions. The focus next will be the World Cup, and thereafter LA. We have time, but yes, I will be around for sure.”

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey
For a change, we have a coach who did well, being not pushed out. Nor does he want to get the hell out, like some of the successful coaches who were hanging in there only to get the event done
But do you all remember what we used to go through with KPS Gill? I still have to pinch myself once in a while to believe that this is all real, and that Indian hockey actually came back from a near-death experience that went on for too long.

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey
Yes, if someone had told me 15-20 years back that we will get back to back medals in olympics would have never believed that. We did not make a SF of world level event ( olympics/world Cup) for long long years. Even when got close we muffed like in Sydney if I recall correctly.

We are a good team except few baggage players like Jarmanpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh. Hope, we will get rid of such players!

Amit Rohidas On Now-Retired PR Sreejesh: ‘Will Miss Him Especially During PC Defense’
https://www.msn.com/en-in/sports/cricke ... r-AA1oP5XB
"I have played many years with Sreejesh bhai. We used to have meaningful conversations with him, be it for a Penalty Corner defense or whenever we felt stuck, we used to ask him what to do and he used to guide us. I will definitely miss him, especially during the PC defense," Rohidas told India.com in an exclusive interaction on the sidelines of Sreejesh's farewell organized by Hockey India on Wednesday in the Capital.
"Goalkeeping is such a job where the goalkeeper analyses the whole game from the back and he gives us directions as what to do. Whenever we used to concede a PC, I would go to him and ask "bhai kya karna hae?". Now that he has retired, I will miss that the most," added Rohidas.
