Re: Marrakech ATP 250, Morocco (Clay), April 2024
Sumit lost a Heartbreak Final set to the 4th Seed..SN was ahead in terms of Total Points won & Breakpoints saved, but a bit of Lack of Experience /Maturity at the Top Level did it. To him..!!

Agree, disappointing.
But Sonego is a good player, ranked above and SN almost won! That is a good sign that he is competing well with the 50-60 ranked players.
Good things ahead!

Yes, but he needs to analyze these games to see where he went wrong and see if he can figure out what to do the next time and how to adapt during a match when the opponent changes tactics or something is not working, etc. That said, the difference was small in this game and may have been just random luck to a small extent enough to sway the game one way.

Re: Marrakech ATP 250, Morocco (Clay), April 2024
Overall a good tournament for Sumit although he could have gone a step further.
Prior to this week, he was 2-14 at ATP and Masters main draw matches, so going 1-1 (and almost winning a second match) this week is a substantial improvement for him. Of course, he has a 2-4 record in GS main draws and he has won almost 50% (nearly $500K) of his career earnings at the GSs.
If he can continue to make the remaining 3 GS main draws (and win 1 round in one of them), he would win another $280K this year to add to his current earnings of $225K this year. So, he could end of winning as much money this year as he has won combined in the other years of his tennis career. Good luck and continued good health to him!

[QF] Yuki Bhambri (IND)/ Albano Olivetti (ITA) d. (3) Nicolas Barrientos (COL) / Roberto Matos (BRA), 76(5) 67(1) 10-7
They made life very difficult for themselves with a total meltdown from being at 76 63 40-15 with 3 match pts. Basically lost some 10 pts out of 11 from there... But they got back on track just on time to pull through in the STB.

Re: Marrakech ATP 250, Morocco (Clay), April 2024
Sumit Probably gave his all in the 1St Set, winning it 6-1, went to depleted energy reserves in the 2nd Set & had to gasp for energy in the 3rd Set..
Probably similar to the Paes vs Agassi match in the 1996 US Open..where Paes was dominant for 1.5Sets and Lost his momentum, with Agassi taking advantage & being dominant..
The 3rd Set was all about keeping terms and Breaking on opportunities..Sumit had some, but couldn't convert..his lack of Experience to deal with Such situations & Maturity.. didn't do any good..Sumit should take lesson from the experience & Rectify the Shortfalls to ensure that these things don't happen again..

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Yes he's done it.. what a win, that too in straight sets, kept his nerves and continued the dominance in S2 and didn't cave in which i had feared.
In the process earns nearly to the amount that of winning a 100k challenger.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
The points are way less, but monies are great. You can't maintain ranking by playing qualies only. So I guess mixing up is the right way.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
For the record, at the ATP1000 Monte Carlo Masters, Monaco (Clay)
[Q1] Sumit Nagal (IND,95) d. (8) Flavio Cobolli (ITA,63), 62 63
so
[Q2] Sumit Nagal (IND,95) vs (3) Facundo Diaz Acosta (ARG,55)
If he makes it into the main draw, we will make a tournament thread, as Bops is there in the doubles draw too. I think it might be the very first time we would have a tournament draw for Monte Carlo Masters, as I don't think any Indian has managed to make it to the main draw of singles there since the Ramesh Krishnan days.
