Re: Australian Open 2024
Fantastic performance to beat a former world no. 38 in straight sets
Now let’s hope for one more win next week.
Well played Sumit

Re: Australian Open 2024
I could not watch the match live and just saw the replay. Sumit played brilliantly. Served much better than how he usually serves. Was struggling physically towards the end, played very smart on the last point as stood well wide on Molcan on second serve keeping the court open and Molcan served a double fault.
He has a tough first round against 31st ranked Alexander Bublik.

Re: Australian Open 2024
Some shorts Sumit hit were amazing. He should be able to beat Paes ranking of 72 or so if he keeps going and improving.
I hope he recovers from his issue at matchpoint, that was scary.
He plays Bublik which is a major challenge. I was hoping for someone unknown. At least it is not Djokovic who is playing another qualifier.

Re: Australian Open 2024
Yes, it was a scintillating performance. Sumit came up with some breathtaking shots. His forehand is just superb, but he had some backhand winners that sizzled too, and his volleying was often brilliant (but slightly less reliable: he missed some shockingly easy ones too). Notably of course, he won 3 rounds of qualifying without dropping a set!!

Re: Australian Open 2024
Yes, Bublik just made the SF of the Adelaide ATP, so he is in very good form. I think he is a pretty big hitter, so the hope is that Sumit can frustrate him into making more errors than normal....Sanjay wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 6:59 pm Some shorts Sumit hit were amazing. Re: Australian Open 2024
Slam main draw debut for VSP and Anirudh as they made it to the AO doubles draw (being #6th on the alternates list). I don’t find Balaji in the draw thought since him and Cornea were the first one on the alts.

VSP-Anirudh are shown as wild cards. They must have got the Asian wild card. Balaji must be waiting around for withdrawals to get in.

Re: Australian Open 2024
Thanks, Sameer. That’s really nice of AO organizers to acknowledge the next best (full) Asian team from the alternates list. Here’s hoping AniVJ gets their first win against a couple of singles specialists. And that Balaji gets to sneak in.
