Basically a froum to cover chess now that we seem to have sufficient interest in the game.

Even in depleted fields or at home tournaments although there may not be much of a home turf advantage in chess. Not sure if that is an indictment of the rankings or a cruel irony. What’s your thinking, Arjun?
We are just now #4 or so. Have not been that for a while. In 10 years, we will see if the young guns win anything or not. They have started well. Also, given the tournament is played using the Swiss method, etc., which is perhaps the most accurate in producing rankings, fluke wins are harder to come by. Furthermore, we don't have anyone in the top 5 regularly. A lot of the big tournament wins go to these folks.

Being sure of gold in any sport or game is surefire recipe for heartbreak. If there are 3 top contenders that are say evenly matched, then you are much better of betting that any one of them will not win than they will win.

An Indian (Vidit) won one of the two biggest tournaments this year (Grand Swiss)

Another Indian (Pragg) reached the finals (World Cup) of the other one only losing to one of the two GOATs in Magnus.

We have 3 Indians in the Candidates - we had 0 before this excluding Anand.

We will also have 2 Indians in the women’s candidates.

This has been an A+ year for Indian chess.

Absolutely!

If anything, several of these were over-achievements per their rankings and chess rankings are perhaps the best.
