Sarbjot did better than at Asian games both in qualifying and final here. Better score in final and also beat the Uzbek who beat him for bronze at Asian games. Still long way to go for him to compete for medals but hope he can improve now that he has got a quota place.

In terms of par performances for rest of this tournament, 2 quota spots in 25m pistol, 1 more quota spot in rifle (we are at 5/8), and 1 in skeet?

A country can get get only 1 in an event. So, if Asian games performance is repeated- 1 each in mens and womens 10M air rifle where we have in form shooters , 1 each in mens skeet , trap men , Womens 25M , Womens 50m rifle 3 positions expected.

So, 6 more quotas if we ( and others ) exactly replicate Asian games performance. I will happy even if we get 5 of those, 4 will be somewhat ok too.

After day 1 in mens skeet, Anant Jit Singh Naruka who is Asian games silver medalist, tied first with 74 with 2 other, Al Rashidi who gold at AG and a Taiwanese. Gurjot Khangura at 71 while Angad Veer Singh Bajwa at 70, all 3 in contention to reach final tomorrow. Only 1 quota won by Qatar her among asian nations. So, one will likely have to finish in top 2 to get a quota.

In womens skeet, Parinaaz Dhaliwal at 11st spot with 67, Ganemat Sekhon 19th spot with 63, Darshana Rathore 22nd with 62. This event Ganemat and Dharshana had won medals at world cups earlier. But, their Asian games form was bad and so it continues here. Perinaaz may have an outside change with perfect last 2 rounds, others are out of conetntion.

Assuming there will only be 6 finalists so Naruka will have his chances if he makes it there.

We did win our first gold in the girls' 10m pistol event. Sainyam qualified joint first and then beat out the 3 Chinese in the finals who finished 2-3-4. Her 578 in qualification was slightly better than Sangwan's 577 in the women's main event for 11th place.

In the boys' 10m, we had 3 finalists but the Chinese are just too good. They had 2 who shot 588 and 583 in qualification and would have qualified in the men as well, and finished 1-2-3 in the finals.

We need to start having similar depth in top talent as the Chinese before we can consistently win medals at the Worlds or Olympics.

In skeet, Naruka has slipped to a tie for 3/4 but Khangura shot well to be tied for 5-7 after 100 shots. It would be great if both qualify.

Khangura had perfect 50 out of 50 today and qualified for final with a 121 and third place. On the other hand, Naruka had bad rounds of 23 and 22 today. So, he finished at 119 tied 6th place with 2 others- Kazakh shooter and Al Rashidi who had won gold at Asian games. They will have shoot off between 3 of them for 1 place in the final.

And Naruka qualifies for the final. One of the 2 Koreans was there only for ranking, so he was not eligible for final. So, it was shoot off between 3 for 2 places in the final and Asian games gold medalist Al Rashidi who was almost perfect in qualifications and finals at Hangzou misses out. How the fortunes change in shooting in few days.

So, both Khangura and Naruka in 6 men final. Korea, Qatar, Taiwan and Kazakhstan others in the final. Qatar's Al-Athba already has a quota. So, it is 5 of them shooting for 2 quotas. Final at 12.15 India time.

Yes, narrow miss that. With 2 shooters in the final, not getting a quota is bad. So, that is 1 expected quota lost out of the expected list of 6 which I had put here yesterday.

In womens juniors, in 10M air rifle, Gautami Bhanot won silver and Sonam Mhaskar was fourth, 2 Chinese being first and third.

Our girls qualification scores of 632.5 and 631.9 would have got them into any world level senior final. We have a wide array of talent in this event ( womens 10M Air rifle) but of course Chinese are a still a step ahead of us. Hope we get a second olympic qualifier from this event tomorrow.

Our boy also won a bronze in mens 10M Air rifle juniors but scores were much lower.
