BWF tournaments Sep 2023
Two big tournaments - China open (1000 series) and HK Open (500 series).
These are the current Race to Paris rankings - Prannoy is 2nd and Lakshya is 6th in the men, Sindhu is 7th amongst the women as are Satwik/Chirag.
China open draw
Lakshya (#12) vs Antonsen (#10) with LKY(#8) in round 2 and Axelsen in the QFs. Tough draw.
Rajawat vs Viditsarn with the latter freshly coming off his WC win
Prannoy has Angus Ng (#18) in round 1 with Viditsarn likely in the 2nd round
Srikanth has Canadian Yang in round 1 and out of form Jonatan Christie in the 2nd which is an easy draw as far as this tournament goes.
Sindhu has Kim ga-eun in round 1 which should be winning but Yamaguchi in round 2
Satwik/Chirag have rising Indonesian pair of Fikri/Maulana in round 1 and Dhruv/Arjun have similar ranked Japanese pair in round 1.
Gayatri and Treesa have top seeds in round 1

Very poor loss for Priyanshu in particular. I hadn't realized that both Srikanth and Sindhu withdrew, they are both in the draw for next week in HK which is a bit silly since Srikanth has Axelsen in the first round.

Re: BWF tournaments Sep 2023
Satchi also lost in first round. So, China open was probably our worst performance in some time.
In the meantime, in BWF super 100 tournament in Indonesia, Kiran George won the mens singles title. With that title, Kiran will move up inside top 40 in mens singles rankings. We now have 5 players in top 40 ( Prannoy, Lakshya, Srikanth,Priyanshu and Kiran) and one just outside top 40 ( Mithun Manjunath) in mens singles.
In the same tournament, in womens doubles, Ashwini Ponappa and Tanisha Crasto made it to the SF and lost in a very close match against top seeds and eventual champions from Indonesia.

Surely there can't be any worse. Everyone who played for India in the tournament lost in the first round.Satchi also lost in first round. So, China open was probably our worst performance in some time.

It also depends who you lose to. If everyone loses to a highly ranked opponent that isn’t too bad. In this tournament, I think m most of the losses were perhaps explainable.

Re: BWF tournaments Sep 2023
^^^ Yes, Prannoy, Satchi and Priyanshu lost to lower ranked players/pairs. Prannoy and Satchi may be tired and somewhat not motivated to do well here. but Priyanshu loss was disappointing.
In Hongkong open which starts from tomorrow, only Lakshya and Priyanshu are there in mens singles, Aakashi Kahshyap in womens singles, Krisha and Vishnuvardhan in mens doubles,Tresa-Gayatri in womens doubles and Rohan-Sikki in mixed doubles in fray for us.
Some are there in qualifying too which will be played tomorrow including last week's winner Kiran George.

Re: BWF tournaments Sep 2023
Unfortunately, both Kiran George and Sankar Muthuswami lost in close matches in final qualifying round. But, Ashwini-Tanisha in womens doubles and Ashwini-Sumith in mixed doubles qualified as also Malvika Bansod in womens singles.
So, we seem to have 2 representatives in each of the fields in the main draw which starts tomorrow.

Re: BWF tournaments Sep 2023
Lakshya withdrew from Hongkong open. So, out of 8 representatives left in all disciplines ( 1 each in mens singles and doubles, 2 each in womens singles, womens doubles and mixed doubles) only 2 womens doubles pairs remain in second round. Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto had a good win over 21st ranked pair. Also Tresa-Gayatri advanced to second round.
