[R1] (Q) Rohan Belday (USA,217) l. Oliver Bonding (GBR,50), 57 06 :(

Rohan has had trouble against good players in getting back into matches once he gets up and happens to fail to close out sets. He needs to just go point by point and forget whatever happened, I assume. Everybody messes up often, and loses advantage in sets. Need to have no memory, and just go on and mount a comeback...

[R2] Maya Iyengar (USA,122) vs. (9) Sonja Zhiyenbayeva (GER,39)
[R2] Krisha Mahendran (IND,154) vs. (7) Rositsa Dencheva (BUL,36)
[R2] (Q) Aditya Govila (IND,193) vs (10) Gabriele Vulpitta (ITA,30)
and
[PQF] Manas Dhamne (IND,74) vs Carlo Alberto Caniato (ITA,75)

Aditya lost in a 3 setter against a top 30 player.

[R2] (Q) Aditya Govila (IND,193) l. (10) Gabriele Vulpitta (ITA,30) 67(4) 64 36

So, we have only Manas left in PQF.

[PQF] Manas Dhamne (IND,74) vs Carlo Alberto Caniato (ITA,75)

[R2] Maya Iyengar (USA,122) l. (9) Sonja Zhiyenbayeva (GER,39), 67(0) 26
[R2] Krisha Mahendran (IND,154) l. (7) Rositsa Dencheva (BUL,36), 46 36

So three expected losses to seeded top-40 players. So only Manas in the PQF from either draw, but I am happy to see a good fight from Aditya against the #30. Aditya has been showing signs of improvement through the year.

Aryan, Yuvan, Manas scores from the USOpen are in a USO thread post (Aryan qualified in, Manas lost in Q1, and Yuvan had made the main draw; and then Aryan and Yuvan went down after good fights against two top quality players)

So, we do not have an Asian closed juniors J300 this year in India, huh? :( ... Those like Manas and Shruti will see their rankings drop steeply in a couple of weeks, a year after their titles at the Pune GB1 last year in mid-September.

It looks like the two Asian (closed) Junior events are at Wanchu, KOR (J300, Asia-Oceania Regional Championships, Oct 2-8) and at Nonthaburi (J300, Asia Regional Championships, Nov 13-18).

Our top boys below top-150 are at various events this week. #186 Aditya Govila is at the J100 in Montreal (CAN) but lost the R32 to a qualifier Noah Johnston (USA,266), 36 36... Adi has certainly been playing tougher events than the others. Rohan Belday (USA,232) had a nice 63 75 win over Denny Bao (CAN,240) to make the PQF there (Edit: Sahana Sanjeev also was there but lost in the R1) ... #244 Kriish Tyagi is the 6th seed at the J200 in Almaty (KAZ) and has a bye into the R32.. #311 Rethin Senthilkumar is the second seed at the J100 in Kulala Lumpur and has a bye into the R32 (Kandhavel Mahalingam, Aarjun Paandit and a qualifier Vishal Prakash are also there).

Our highest ranked 2008-born girl, Sohin Sanjay Mohanty (second highest ranked player born after 2007, behind 2009 girl Maaya) is at the J200 in Almaty and won a round against a wildcard to make R32 where she meets a 11th seeded Russian.

The Pune one moved to Thailand.

Almaty J200 Update: 6th seed Kriish Tyagi (IND,244) is in the QF with a bye and two wins - 63 75 over Kuzma Gomziakov (RUS,912) and 61 75 over Patrick Jozwicki (POL,341). Good job, and he now gets close to #200 (but has points dropping off for the India JB1 from last year, in a week). Plays the 3rd seed in the QF today. 15 yr old Sohini Sanjay Mohanty won the R64 over a wildcard but lost to the 11th seed in R32. She won two doubles rounds but lost in the QF to the top seeds.

Montreal J200 update: Rohan (USA) lost in the R2... Maya Dutta (USA) is in the SF, as the only Indian-origin representative.

Kuala Lumpur J100: 2nd seed Rethin Senthilkumar (IND,311) is in the QF against a 16th seeded Romanian, after a bye and a 63 64 win over Aarav Samrat Hada (USA,828). Kandhavel lost to the 4th seed and Aarjun lost to the 12th seed, both in straight sets inn R32 after one win each. Kandhavel's 3-set R32 win over a 17 yr old Chinese guys was nice to see. Rethin and Kandhavel are in the douubles QF as the 7th seeds too. Rishitha Basireddy had a bye and then lost in R32 to a 13th seeded Indonesian in straight sets. Tejasvi Dabas lost the R64 in straight sets to an unseeded USA player.

Almaty J200: Kriish Tyagi's semifinal got postponed today. The other semifinal also was mid-way in the first set when play was called off. They will play both the semifinals and later a final tomorrow.

Kuala Lumpur J100: #311 Rethin Senthilkumar beat the 6th seed Imran Daniel Abdul Hazli (MAS,350) 75 63 and made the SF. A final or title will be good for Rethin to keep or better his ranking next week, when he loses 60 pts from the PQF at the Delhi JB1 last year. Rethin and Kandhavel lost in the doubles SF against a 5th seeded team.

Rethin lost in the final 36 36. That is somewhat disappointing loss after a good run this week by Rethin.

Krish Tyagi lost in the SF at Almaty J200 against top seed 64 57 06.

The Asia-Oceania (closed) Juniors J300 is going on this week in Wanju, S.Korea... Yuvan the 4th seed, Aditya the 14th seed, Rethin, Kandhavel, and Hitesh Chauhan were in the main draw. Nobody was in the qualifying draw and not a single Indian girl is there (sad!)

Yuvan has reached the QF round, with 3 wins over unseeded players. Aditya went down to the 3rd seed Hayden Jones (AUS) in the PQF after wins against two wildcards. Rethin beat a Korean and went down to a 6th seeded Korean in the R32. Hitesh beat a qualifier and lost to a 11th seeded Australian Hugh Winter in the R32. Kandhavel lost to a 9th seeded Korean in the first round.

In the PQF today, Yuvan double-bagelled the Korean who had upset the 13th seeded Kazakhi earlier, and he plays plays the 11th seed, who upset the 5th seed in the PQF

Good to see Yuvan play well but isn't he already 18 and therefore in his final year as a junior. Perhaps, he is trying to improve his junior rankings, to get priority entry into ITF events based on his junior ranking.

Yeah, he will be done with junior eligibility after this year. I think he is trying to get as many good matches against the top-100 juniors as he can get. He seems to be in no hurry to jump into the pros. Maybe he wants to see if he can become the Asia-Oceania champion, which would be a great thing to put into a resume.
