Re: Sumit Nagal thread
No breaks of serve after resumption sadly.
At Poznan Challenger 100, Poland (Clay)
[R2] Sumit Nagal (IND,226) l. (4) Facundo Diaz Acosta (ARG,117) 16 62 46
Not a bad match against a player who is in such a good form this clay season.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit was indeed playing very well when I watched the third set, even while he went down a break early. Definitely at a top-150 level. He had a couple of break chances at 3-5 but FDA came up with the goods. In the final game, Sumit kinda screwed things up and took himself out of it. Hit a strong long crosscourt BH winner but that went 6 inches out - just an error. Then he simply dumped a winner, that was there for the taking, into the net. Correct move to the net there, and it was a strong shot too, but it clipped the net and did not bounce over. I guess it was just not his day in the end. You win some; you lose some. I am okay, as long as he plays at this level. The grunting normally shows the level; and it was high today ... He will be back in the top-150 again, barring injury; not much doubt now.
Sumit or bust for Indian tennis, and again bust is still on the outside looking in.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
His last 3 losses have been to #117 and #123 clay courters and to Valkusz (who went on to win that title), So, his level of play appears to be pretty good. Now, he needs another deep run or two to get there.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
That was indeed cruel and the turning point, had he won that point his opponent would have been 15-30 on serve, and then anything could have happened.
In Tennis 15-30 / 30-15 is the most extremely crucial phase of the game.

Wow, nice list, thanks for posting! If he keeps improving, he has a good chance for the US Open.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Best if he continues to play on clay till US open. His best chance to crack top 100. May clay specialist have done that before .Sanjay wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 2:52 amarjun2761 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 2:18 am https://www.wimbledon.com/pdf/update/re ... ntries.pdf

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Yes, he is 219 in live ranking now. 2-3 players may overtake him but he will be around 220-222 in ATP rankings next Monday and he has only 2 more points to defend till end of July which is cut off date for USO qualies. So, he is pretty much assured of entry at USO qualies.Sanjay wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 2:52 amarjun2761 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 2:18 am https://www.wimbledon.com/pdf/update/re ... ntries.pdf

He is taking a couple of weeks break now and will return to Europe for challengers in the week of July 3.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Actually, he has always been quite good on hard courts, and not like the clay courters who used to totally struggle on hard courts. Thsoe are typically power guys without great quickness. His first step quickness has improved a lot in the recent months, so I would like to see him on hard courts with the current level of quickness. Did you all see a drop shot on him today in the third set that he caught up to and hit a great crosscourt winner off? That was stunning quickness.
Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Agree - Sumit is quick and is the only Indian presently that can leave skid marks on a hard court!
