Yes, first title of this level for Prannoy.

At Malaysia Masters 500

[F] HS Prannoy (IND,9) d. Weng Hong Yang (CHN,34) 21-19 13-21 21-18

He is getting better and better in last couple of years after being stagnant for a long time.

Prannoy is skipping this week in Thailand. But, there are 7 Indians in mens singles main draw- Srikanth, Lakshya, Sai Praneeth, Kiran George, Mithun Manjunath, Sameer Verma and Priyanshu Rajawat. No all Indian matchups.

4 Indians in womens singles main draw - Sindhu, Saina, Ashmita Chalita and Malvika Bansod. Good to see Saina back. Malvika and Ashmita play each other.

Satwik-Chirag are back in mens doubles and are top seeds.

Huge upset. Kiran George upsets 3rd seed Shi Yu Qi, a Chinese most Indian players have struggled with.

Sindhu lost. Her fitness levels are really low.

Out of 7 Indians in mens singles - only 2 are thru to second round. Laskhya and Kiran George.

Out of 7 Indians in womens singles - 2 of 4 remain- Saina and Ashmita

Satwik-Chirag are the only double team in the second round.

Tough day for us.

Although we won Thomas cup last year, I think we still lag behind a lot in terms of domestic infrastructure in badminton!! (in comparision to Malaysia, Indonesia, China etc)

Rajawat did play but lost in the first round against Malaysian Tze Yong NG who has gone on to upset top seed Chou in second round.

Kiran George is on fire this week. Beating 2 Chinese back to back is not easy. They are usually ranked lower than their level. Kiran beat 9th and 26th ranked Chinese this week.

Also today Lakshya Sen upset All England champion 4th seed Li Shi Feng in the second round.

But, top seed Satwik-Chirag got upset against an Indonesian pair and Saina- Ashnita lost against their more fancied opponents.

2 Indians left in the QF.

At Thailand Open

[QF] (Q) Kiran George (IND,59) vs. Toma Junior Popov (FRA,28)

[QF] Lakshya Sen (IND,23) vs. (Q) Leong Jun Hao (MAS,65)

Our players are clearly lacking consistency. SatChi should have won today. Sindhu was a little unlucky though. Michelle Li is in hot form and knocked out another seeded player. However she has been extremely inconsistent of late.

At Thailand Open

[QF] (Q) Kiran George (IND,59) l. Toma Junior Popov (FRA,28) 16-21 17-21

[QF] Lakshya Sen (IND,23) d. (Q) Leong Jun Hao (MAS,65) 21-19 21-11

Next,

[SF] Lakshya Sen (IND,23) vs. (2) Kunlavut Vitidsarn (THA,5)

Lakshya plays his junior compatriate in SF. Lakshya lost to Kunlavut in junior world championships SF in 2019. Before that Lakshya had beaten him in 2018 Asian juniors final. In pros, Lakshya had a headstart and went to top 10 quickly 2 years back but Kunlavut has slowly but surely gone ahead to top 5 now. He will have an edge tomorrow against Lakshya.

Hopefully, Lakshya is back on the rise and will get the better of his rival from junior days. Likely tough to do as it is also his opponents home country.
