It seems staying ahead of Scotland and South Africa at the 5th spot is what we should look for. That would be fine.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
Last commonwealth games, we were third with 26 golds but it had 7 shooting golds. So, 19 would be comparable number which was still ahead of Canada and New Zealand both of whom had 15 golds. So, I had put target of third place at the start of these games. But, it does looks like Canada and New Zealand have improved somewhere. It will also be tough for us to reach that number of 19 golds. We have had setbacks of sure golds slipping away like yesterday Manika Batra and Sathian who are world # 6 pair losing out in QF itself and in squash pair of Deepika and Joshana who were world doubles champions few months back losing in first round itself.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
Some really good results at the start of the day.
Priyanka Goswami won silver in Women 10KM walk with a PB. Our third athletics medal in this CWG so far.
2 Indian boxers who had their bouts so far - Amit Panghal and Neetu have both made it to the final. Amit came back after losing in the first round to win second and third round across the boards. Neetu won by RSC against her opponent. 5 other boxers still to come thru the day in the SF.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
Wow, Wow, Wow,
In 3000M steeplechase, Avinash Sable broke the Kenyan hegemony to win silver. Kenaya has swept medals in this event in last 6 commonwealth games and there were 3 Kenayans in the field and all 3 of them had season best and personal best better than Avinash. But, Avinash beat 2 of those and came close to beating the third Kenyan and winning the gold. He narrowly misse that. He beat his own National record with timing of 8:11.20.
Superb feat. This is surely one of our best performances of this olympics if not the best.
4th medal in Athletics in these games for us. 3 silver and 1 bronze so far.

2 boxing finals are v English opponents, so we can forget a gold in either one. Another semi v English will be a bronze.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
Sharath Kamal and Sreeja just beat the Australian pair to reach the TT mixed doubles final too! They will be up against the Malaysian pair that upset Manika/Sathiyan in the QFs.
Bhavina Patel plays in the finals of Para TT women's singles (classes 3-5) tonight. Sonalben Patel and Raj Alagar are in bronze matches in women's and men's classes 3-5 too.

Nikhat Zareen beats English opponent 5-0 to reach final. She was so good that judges could not deny her.

Formula is simple.
If it is a unanimous decision, there is no cheating.
If it is a split decision, the piddly island will always get the result.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
Sreeja Akula has outdone her senior Manika Batra here. She put up a tough fight in singles SF too but lost 10-12 in final game.
Sharath and Sathian meet 2 English opponents in singles SF and face the same 2 as pair in doubles final. Will be tough for them. Hope they wriggle out at least 1 gold out of these 2 .

Yeah, time to kick Manika the malcontent out of the team. Should have done that after Tokyo.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
She's still the best ranked singles, doubles and mixed doubles player from India. Kick out? Definitely not. Agreed, she's having a horrible outing here after 4 medals in her previous CWG. Sreeja has played her hearts out in this Games, but she's still not up to the level of Manika yet in international events elsewhere when you have Chinese/Japanese/Europeans and Koreans in the fray. We have a good chunk of female playing options now and we should build on this to make a good outing at Team's event in Paris 2024. Individual podium finishes is still highly unlikely.
