Sanjay, also state what happened. :D

Sumit got double bagled in his Q2 match.

At Luedenscheid Challenger 80, Germany (Clay)

[Q2] (9) Sumit Nagal (IND,466) l. (6) Georgii Kravchenko (UKR,415) 06 06

Wonder if he is injured again. :-(

I don’t think he is fully fit yet as he barely won his first round match against a player that has barely had any wins. The fact that he didn’t retire is perhaps an indication that he did not further injure himself.

This week Sumit got into main draw of challenger in Germany with his PR. He lost in first round but after a decent fight where he had a chance to serve for the first set at 5-4.

At Braunschweig Challenger 125, Germany (Clay)

[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND,514) l. Oleksii Krutykh (UKR,279) 67(4) 36

At least better than the drubbing he received last week.

Agreed. This looks like a normal loss of someone that isn't in good form versus the shellacking he received earlier which made me wonder about his fitness since he is recovering from a surgery.

And Sumit at the Amersfoort Challenger loses his first round qualifier to a 346 opponent in straight sets 1 & 4.
Actually not too bullish even on him in the ensuing months and sadly 2023 might mark without a single Indian player at GS singles qualies for a considerable period of time and dreadfully even in our lifetime, the pipeline is completely dry, And I gladly would wish to be proved wrong on this.

Rajiv you are not wrong. The lack of real sponsorship and support - traveling as a team with good coach and physio, being able to get immediate feedback when things go wrong, proper tournament scheduling and planning - this also takes real money - lots of investment needed to reap adequate returns. There needs to be a Narayanamurthy/Infosys like approach here where these “consultants” are “assigned” tournaments where they can maximize on points/earnings - it has to be run as a Human Resources business. India has the skills - plenty of managers who can run this business effectively for the entire player life cycle - from training to deployment at professional tournaments starting from futures to ATP grand slams. The industry has already been established - the Indian response is missing. It is the same as the IT outsourcing structure, except that here the bodies are flying to the “client” tournament sites and are earning points/money.

His opponent Arthur Fils is 2021 French Open juniors runner up and here he went on to qualify and then upset 138th ranked Travaglia in first round. So, in his current form that was not a surprising loss for Sumit.

Sumit had a very good win today in the Liberec Challenger qualifing.

At Liberec Challenger 80, Czech Republic (Clay)

[Q1] Sumit Nagal (IND,561) d. (3) Henri Squire (GER,291) 63 62

This is Sumit's only second win against top 300 player since he made a comeback from injury few months back.

Next,

[Q2] Sumit Nagal (IND,561) vs. (7) Oleg Prihdoko (UKR,354)

Can he do a RamK with 2 good wins, so India does the extremely rare thing of two guys' having two good wins in a row each, two weeks in row? :)

Nice to see Sumit gradually regaining his mojo. Coming back from a long injury lay-off is never easy. Our players have to do it multiple times in their careers :-( (the exception being RamK).

At Liberec Challenger 80, Czech Republic (Clay)

[R1] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,552) vs. Lorenzo Giustino (ITA,242)

They have played each other once last year where the Italian won 7-5 in third set. If Sumit plays like he did in 2 qualifying matches, we will have another close match I think.

Another good win for Sumit in first round.

At Liberec Challenger 80, Czech Republic (Clay)

[R1] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,552) d. Lorenzo Giustino (ITA,242) 62 26 76(3)

Sumit was 5-1 double break up in third set only to give away both breaks and it was back to 5-5. Then, Sumit finally held and had a matchpoint on the Italian's serve which he could not convert. Then, it went to tie break and thankfully Sumit played a strong tie break to come thru.

Next up against top seed.

[R2] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,552) vs. (1) Jiri Lehecka (CZE,65)
