Hockey at Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, July 28- August 8, 2022

Post by sameerph »

With Asian games now postponed, we have decided to field a full strength team at CWG, earlier there was talk that with Asian games being the main qualifying event for Olympics, we might have a second string team for CWG.

This is the team-

GK | Sreejesh P R, Krishan Pathak

Defenders | Varun Kumar, Surender Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh (vc), Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh

Midfielders | Manpreet Singh (C), Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Shamsher Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Nilakanta Singh

Forwards | Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Abhishek

Don't see the logic of this squad. As you all know, I have no time for Mandeep & Akashdeep. Jarmanpreet is almost as maddening as these 2. Pawan Rajbar is a must in the first team. Look at the difference Abhishekh has made in the few matches he's played so far. In defence, I'd have selected Sanjay instead of Amit Rohidas.

I'm suspecting Simranjeet and Shilanand's absence is due to injury.

Let's hope we get a good performance, particularly v Australia ;)

Withdrawal from game is bad idea...We should play as max game possible, particularly against australia, eng and nz.....
Pawan Rajbhar needs to be in team....I don't see the logic of his absence.

Yes, these games are a hark back to imperial superiority. I favour a complete withdrawal from these pointless event.

Going back to the hockey selections; how can Mandeep or Akashdeep get in ahead of Dilpreet or Pawan Rajbar? I'm pretty sure Graham Reid has no say in the selections.

Our women play Australia tonight in the SF.

Our women lost in a shootout. We led 1-0 for quite some time and into the 4th quarter, got tied, and lost 0-3 in the shootout. That followed the scripts quite nicely, eh? :(

It was the other way round, I believe Australia scored in the first Qr and led most of the game. India equalized in the 4th Qr but unfortunately lost the penalty shoot out.

We were 0-1 down but made an equaliser in the Q4. Penalty shootout was absolute cheating. We saved the first one but the ref said that "clock did not start" so they were given another chance. LOL, Wtf? That was going to be a huge psychological burden. And it did as Aus scored 3-0 in PS.

Ah, I see. Thanks. I looked at the score update page and read it wrongly. Can't watch any of this because I don't live in the Commonwealth!

Even the Australian commentator's were shocked and their major broadcast channel went on to say it would have caused a National Outrage if it had happened to them.

For us nothing matter.. only if it is Kirket Bumrah, Kohli,Pant & Co are involved
