French Open 2022
The French Open main draw begins on 22nd May, but the qualifying begins on Monday 16th May. We should have Ramkumar Ramanathan, Sumit Nagal, Yuki Bhambri (with his protected ranking) and Prajnesh Gunneswaran competing in the singles qualifiers this year. Ankita appears unlikely to be able to play the women's qualifiers.
Sania Mirza will be playing her last French Open, competing in the doubles main draw. Rohan Bopanna (probably partnering Shapovalov) will be in the doubles draw, and Ramkumar should be able to edge into it as well (for his first doubles main draw at a Slam; he did play MxD at last year's Wimbledon, but has never made the main draw of a Slam in either singles or doubles).

Re: French Open 2022
It is a very long shot for Prajnesh to get into Qualies at this point of time.
He is 44 out of qualies right now....
Gud luck to RamK, Yookster and Sumit.
On the doubles front, I think RamK will need someone with a decent doubles/singles rank to be able to make the main draw...
AO 2022 MD main draw last direct entry was a combined ranking of 160, if I am not wrong... and RamK's live MD ranking currently is 79..... He needs someone with a Top-50 ranking to be his partner just to be safe....

Re: French Open 2022
Doubles Entry list is out.... And as feared, RamK didn't make it in directly as his partner for the event, Sander Arends, currently has a doubles ranking of 101.... On the bright side, they are #1 in the ALT list and will most probably make it in....
Rohan Bopanna is partnering Matwe Middelkoop and the pair is #14 in the main list and are likely to be seeded....
Gud luck to both the teams!

Re: French Open 2022
Bad decision by Rohan not to partner with Ramkumar, with whom he has won 2 ATP tour titles this year. He has had relatively little success on tour with Middlekoop. The only other successful pairing he has had is with Shapovalov, who is probably choosing to focus on singles after his triumph over Rafa at the Italian Open (Rome Masters).

Re: French Open 2022
Combined ranking for RamK and Arends for entry list for French Open is shown as 163, I don't know how. But, anyway hope that they make it in which they should. But, I agree Rohan should have partnered with RamK if he was not partnering Shapovalov.prashanthm wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 7:42 pm Doubles Entry list is out.... Re: French Open 2022
And the poor guy even had entered Marrakesh, Houston with a hope that SageBoppana will grant him a boon ,but like IW & Miami all his efforts failed.
Honestly, SageBoppana never had any serious gennuine plans to tie up with Ram, as Adelaide happened by default, accident where the Sage had nowhere to go ,due last minute withdrawal of his original partner and Pune was basically pressure from organisors to team up and have a solid Indian pairing.
And if you look back and compare how Ramesh selflesly guided , mentored Leander into making him into a WC doubles player.

Re: French Open 2022
Unfortunately, we don't have real sages anymore in the current crop, at least in Indian tennis....
On a side note, after Sumit's retirement last week there was a risk of him withdrawing from FO Qualies. But it looks like the injury is not that serious or he hasn't made up his mind yet or he is going to give it a shot since he is already in Europe.
Gud luck!

Re: French Open 2022
Yes, every match in a Slam qualifier is going to be a tough battle. But all three are capable of pulling off a surprise, so all the best to all 3 of our warriors! Let's get to Q2, then move forward one step at a time...

Re: French Open 2022
Only Nagal is anywhere close to scripting a possible win. Other two are here for the money. Hope they put up a fight atleast.

Re: French Open 2022
Actually a fit Sumit Nagal could have a chance at beating a 150+ Argentine on clay. However, Sumit is coming back from a 6 month injury break and perhaps has a further niggle, so it seems like a long shot for him.
Yuki has the quality to compete but again his fitness and his playing style (hitting a relative flat ball) will likely mean a short stay in Paris. Perhaps, same with Ramk as his serve-and-volley style isn't suited to clay....

[Q1] PR-Yuki Bhambri (IND,624) l. Altug Celigbilek (TUR,183) 36 57
He had his chances in the second set, but couldn't capitalize. It was really ludicrous for him to go into the FO qualies without a clay-court singles match under his belt.
