Unclear what Yuki is planning with respect to singles. At first, I thought he probably wouldn't want to play singles on clay. However, I think he will use one of PRs to play French Open qualies, so getting some singles practice on red clay would have been helpful as playing singles is different than simply playing doubles on red clay.

RamK makes it in as a lucky loser at Bordeaux challenger.

At Bordeaux Challenger 125, France (Red Clay)

[R1] (LL) Ramkumar Ramnathan (IND,179) vs. (Q) Andrea Pellegrino (ITA,257)

He plays his singles R1 in about 2 hours or so. Divij playes his doubles match later in the evening.

In Germany, Sumit plays his singles R1 at around same time. Yuki and Saketh play their doubles R1 later in the evening.

Damn, Sumit retired from his match. Just could not move well after winning the first set. :-(

At Heilbronn Challenger 100, Germany ( Clay)

[R1] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,309) l. (LL) Miljan Zekic (SRB,265) 63 15 retd.

The way he was playing in first set up 5-2 , it looks like he will win this easily but after that point something just caught up with him, looks like recurrence of hip injury for which he was out for 6 months. But, not sure.

And RamK too lost in first round.

At Bordeaux Challenger 125, France (Red Clay)

[R1] (LL) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,179) l. (Q) Andrea Pellegrino (ITA,257) 46 46

I noticed that for a change RamK started staying back and rallying on lot of his serves. Did not work what we have been advocating for him for long. ;)

Not sure what happened here, but in an interview last week Yuki mentioned that he intended to play at least one singles match before FO....

Yuki: I am going to try and enter more tournaments and hopefully get at least a match before the French.

Yuki: My schedule is going to be back to playing more singles from July, once the US swing starts. I’m definitely going to be playing in a tournament. Maybe even two okay. I don’t think I’ll be going straight into Wimbledon without playing on grass.

Yuki doesn't appear to be playing the singles qualifiers at the Prostejov Challenger. It seems he has given up on a singles career. Saketh (whose chances of a singles revival are much thinner at this age) and Arjun are playing singles, but Yuki isn't. In doubles, Yuki/Saketh play Margaroli/Satchko in R1, while Kadhe/Balaji play 4th seeded Fallert/Martinez.

In this case, Yuki did not make it to qualies draw. He finished 7 out from qualies, Saketh made it in based on his PR of 491 and Arjun based on his current ranking of 542. That is why I said earlier that not playing any of the Indian futures or challengers earlier in the year means Yuki's singles ranking has remained so poor that he cannot even make it to most of the challenger qualifying draws.

^^^ What is new. All his career, his tour planning has been horrible. But he has generally done the rest of it quite fine, considering all the injuries and comebacks he has had. He is not a slacker. Just a poor planner! :)
