Yes, very high quality win for RamK and Yuki. Hugo Nys had won a couple of ATP titles on clay last year and made it to French open quarter finals while Austin Krajicek reached Cincy ATP masters final last year and reached Tokyo olympics semi finals.

Their SF opponents yet to be decided as other doubles QF got postponed to tomorrow.

In singles RamK faces top seed -

At Aix-en-Provence Challenger 100, France ( Red Clay)

[QF] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,185) vs. (1) Benjamin Bonzi (FRA,70)

What a fabulous day for Ramkumar. He also has a winning record against his next opponent, #70 Benjamin Bonzi. They played 6 years ago in the Todi Challenger (on clay!) and Ramkumar won 64 61! But the odds-makers have Bonzi as the favourite to win. Let's prove them wrong, RamK!

I think Ramkumar-Yuki is a winning doubles combination. They could become one of the top pairs in the world, but their personalities may not gel, which is the one fear I have about this pairing. As long as they play together, though, let us enjoy the ride.

Ramkumar is now at a career-high 79 in the live doubles rankings. He will need a slightly higher-ranked partner to be sure of getting into the doubles main draw at the French Open. Ironically, RamK was the only one of the four on the court yesterday who is yet to play singles or doubles at a Slam main draw -- the other 3 have played both singles and doubles in Slam main draws. (Yuki made R3 at the AO with Michael Venus, and also made R2 at the FO in 2018).

Yuki is now at 268 in the live doubles rankings. If they win the title, Ramkumar will rise to 75 (probably enough to get him into the FO main draw) and Yuki to about 236.

Interestingly, Ramkumar has won 2 ATP tour titles this year (with RB) -- in Adelaide and Pune -- but has only won 1 Challenger doubles title in 2022 (with Saketh, Bangalore 1). He also lost 2 Challenger doubles finals this year (at Bangalore 2 with Saketh, and Biel with Purav).

Some missed chances, one close line call at the end and possibly a tired RamK didn't help Yuki/RamK today....

And in the singles, not sure what happened to RamK after breaking the top seed to win the second set. He came out at the beginning of the final set and was never looked like at the top of his game....

Yuki is back with Saki next week at the Heilbronn CH. Both of them are also in the ALT list for qualies... Gud luck before the FO qualies....

This week RamK is playing qualifying at Bordeaux Challenger and started with an easy win.

At Bordeaux Challenger 125, France (Red Clay)

[Q1] (2) Ramkumar Ramnathan (IND,185) d. (WC) Pierre Delage (FRA,987) 75 64

Next,

[Q2] (2) Ramkumar Ramnathan (IND,185) vs. (9) Joao Menezes (BRA,262)

Menezes made it to the final qualifying round at French open last year. So, he is pretty good on clay. Will be a challenge for RamK.

Btw, RamK is not playing doubles this week. But, Divij will be playing alongwith Artem Sitak this week here.

Sumit and Saketh playing qualies in Germany.

At Heilbronn Challenger, Germany ( Clay)

[Q1] (3) Sumit Nagal (IND,289) d. (WC) Yannik Kelm (GER,NR) 62 61

[Q1] Saketh Myneni (IND,655) l. Henri Squire (GER,352) 26 46

Strange that Yuki did not sign up for qualies here. He would have made it in as an alternate.

[Q2] (3) Sumit Nagal (IND,289) vs. (11) Akexis Gautier (FRA,339)

Yuki and Saketh are playing second seeds here and Sumit playing doubles along with Vishnu.

Ramk lost in final qualifying round.

At Bordeaux Challenger 125, France (Red Clay)

[Q2] (2) Ramkumar Ramnathan (IND,185) l. (9) Joao Menezes (BRA,262) 46 57

A very close match , RamK won just 1 point less than Menezes. 0 out of 6 on breakpoints against 2 out of 2 by his opponent. Match could have gone his way if RamK had taken his chances. Again not a bad match by him against a player who is pretty good on clay.

One LL spot opened up, can another one open up, looks difficult now.

Sumit qualified for main draw in Germany.

At Heilbronn Challenger 100, Germany ( Clay)

[Q2] (3) Sumit Nagal (IND,309) d. (11) Akexis Gautier (FRA,339) 64 20 retd

Main draw-

[R1] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,309) vs. (LL) Miljan Zekic (SRB,265)

Sumit had lost the only match they played way back in 2015 in Srilanka. Hope Sumit is able reverse that result tomorrow.

Yuki was in the ALT list, but must have opted out in the end for some reason when there was space for him to get into Qualies...
