Prescient! Hope Sid enters the top 200 this year.

Unfortunately, Sid could not follow up with her first round upset win.

At $25K futures, Nothanburi, Thailand

[R2] Siddharth Rawat (IND,479) l. Makoto Ochi (JPN,428) 57 67(6)

Somehow our players tend to struggle against Japanese opponents.

At the $35,000 Potchopen Challenger, Potchefstroom, South Africa (hard)

[R1] Sidharth Rawat (IND,442) vs Danylo Kalenichenko (UKR,502)
[R1] Sidharth Rawat (IND)/ Mick Veldheer (NED) vs (WC) Gerhardt Marius Becker (RSA)/ Pierre Malan (RSA)

A winnable match for Sid in the R1, but if he wins he may run into the top seed Bonzi (FRA,236). In doubles, they will run into the 2nd seeds if they advance.

Pretty poor quality Challenger field. I don't think Sid needs to fear the top seed. But first he needs to win R1..!

Nice R1 singles win for Siddharth:

[R1] Sidharth Rawat (IND,445) d. Danylo Kalenichenko (UKR,463) 57 63 62

Which brings up:

[R2] Siddharth Rawat (IND, 445) vs. 1-Benjamin Bonzi (FRA, 241)

Bonzi beat a player ranked 440 in R1, 75 62. So Sid should aim to do slightly better than the latter in the first set, and take it from there.

Sid had a chance to even things up at 36 53 against Bonzi just now, but missed 7 of 8 first serves (you CANNOT do that!) and then double faulted to get broken at AD out. His first serves were all quite decent except he tried to make them hit the corners and kept missing. I guess he pushed a bit to take the game. Anyway, lost chance. 36 55 now. He is broken again at 30-40 after a really good rally of 19 shots (good patience from Sid there) but Bonzi was too good in the end. And Bonzi serves it out.

At the $35,000 Potchopen Challenger, Potchefstroom, South Africa (hard)

[R2] Siddharth Rawat (IND, 445) l. (1) Benjamin Bonzi (FRA,241), 36 57

What a huge missed opportunity for Siddharth. And that ends the week for him with the doubles loss to Dustin Brown and partner.

Sid Rawat has come (back) into his own in the past two weeks, making the singles final of the M15 Futures in Bhopal and Bangalore, losing to Arjun Kadhe in both finals. This week he is top-seeded in New Delhi. Surprisingly, he plays little doubles these days, and has relatively scant success when he does. He used to play doubles too in the past, although his career high in doubles is only 590, compared with a career-high of 430 in singles.

He won the title this week in New Delhi futures after finishing runner up in first 2 weeks. Quite a good performance by Sid notching up 31 points in 3 weeks and only lost to Arjun twice in this futures series. He will be back in top 500 when these points are updated a week later.
