Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
Several states are imposing night curfew to stop the spread of Covid. I have no idea how that helps? Those who are 60+ need to provide proof of comorbidity to get a booster shot. I hope they let people mix the booster shot. So those who took two does of Covishield can take Covaxin and vice-versa. It would be great if Covovax is given emergency approval. Then, it would be a perfect booster.

This government is sleepwalking. They are basically relying on those serosurvey and have not changed their strategy or doing things just to show they are taking action.suresh wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 2:34 pm Several states are imposing night curfew to stop the spread of Covid. I am not sure why covocax is not getting approved, indian govt is essentially holding off approval becoz it is not approved in country of origin. There is something really messed up with Novovax that they have not been able to get approval for almost one year now in UK or US. In fact, they have not even applied for approval in US

We need more real world effectiveness data from India and that would help us decide future policy: Gagandeep Kang
Synopsis
A study on mixing Covishield and Covaxin, two of the main Covid-19 vaccines currently available in India, is under way at CMC Vellore. But there are no conclusions yet. Experts are finding it difficult to get enough people with Covaxin to recruit into the study. CMC has now reached out to other institutes.

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
My updates got way late for Sunday... It was +6,526... Got a small drop in the seven-day average again, but only because of very low testing on Christmas... Drop of -18 to 6,637... But only about 1090K tests at 0.60%... There were 60 deaths and Kerala added 252 old ones to it.
-------------
ICMR Update: 672,936,621 total tests... Sunday tests: 752,935... Lab count: 3010

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
^^^ Quite a bit higher .... It was over 6.2K, and our average goes up by somewhere around +160 .... I think a lot of cases that went undetected on Saturday and Sunday due to back to back holidays will come out in the next couple of days too. Expecting our third wave to start rising rather steeply now.
I guess we might see above a +2000 tomorrow in Maharashtra. Delhi has gone up to +331 today and should be 500+ very soon. The new state to join in the third wave today - Jharkhand.
And the Omicron count has gone up to 667 total so far. Only bad news today

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
I should have estimated 6K but reduced it given that it was Monday. I was wrong. Yes, the third wave has begun.jayakris wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 3:31 am ^^^ Quite a bit higher .... Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
I am looking at US and UK numbers and they are just staggering. UK reported 300k yday, but at least they reported zero cases the past two days.
US reported 543k cases probably a single day record, this after reporting 50k and 180k the past two days. Their seven day average is now 240k. US numbers have doubled in the past 20 days.
Are cases here going to drop as fast as SA?

Big States 28/12/2021 Tuesday
KL - 2474 (from 60597 tests and TPR 4.1%)
MH - 2172 (Mumbai circle 1680, Pune circle 308) So most of the cases are in Mumbai/Pune and surrounding areas.
WB - 752 (TPR 2.4%) positivity rate is creeping up.
TN - 619
DL - 496
KA - 356
OR - 256
MZ - 184 (TPR 10.3%)
AP - 141
J&K - 91
Total - 7541 (TL to come)
I expect a total of 8.6K cases today. We had 6336 cases last Tuesday. So the seven day average will go up by almost 200 today. There are no doubts that that the third wave has begun.

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
Looks like merck pill was only approved narrowly by FDA. I think pfizer is a better alternativesuresh wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 6:47 am Finally!

India has granted Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) to Serum Institute of India's Covovax, Biological E's Corbevax and antiviral Covid-19 pill molnupiravir in a significant move.
https://newatlas.com/health-wellbeing/f ... de-effect/
There is really no reason to approve Merck, when pfizer pill appears to be more effective. While Pfizer’s final trial analysis reported up to 90 percent protection from COVID-19 hospitalization or death, molnupiravir’s efficacy strangely dropped from interim analysis to final reporting. Initially Merck announced molnupiravir delivered around 50 percent protection from COVID-19 hospitalization or death but a final trial analysis weeks later revealed that efficacy had dropped to barely 30 percent.
Besides questions of efficacy or individual safety, some experts have also questioned whether molnupiravir’s mutagenic mode of action could accelerate the chances of new variants emerging. A drug that intentionally forces a virus to mutate could, in theory, generate mutations that don’t kill the virus but help it become more virulent.

Give me a candy for that prediction yesterday. MAH went from 1400+ to 2172 today. Delhi jumped from 331 to 496 in one day! Argh
