Kohli has never been an explosive T20 batter. His approach to T20 is of a bygone era which is built on accumalation. The modern day T20 great player dismantles a bowling attack by repeted 4's and 6's which Kohli has not been capable of for some time.

Sunil Narine (with 19 runs off 4 balls, ie, 3 sixes and a single) has ended the match in that over, after his heroics with the ball earlier.
Yep. Kohli got bitten by the foren bug. All three foreign bowlers for RCB were bad. He should have bowled Shahbaz when they were getting hit. And, if he did not want to, then he should have bowled out Maxwell and given Siraj the last over. Or something like that. Spinners were much harder to hit on this pitch and Dan Christian does not have pace anyway.

Does Narine chuck? He certainly straightens his elbow for some balls but for some it stays straight. And does he chuck strategically? That is some balls. In some matches? Unfortunately, we will never know because I cannot measure if it is more than 15 degrees. But, I would be fine with an umpire reporting him.

Whether he chucks or not, his thinking and variations and pin point accuracy was superb. Few could do that that well even if they are allowed to chuck.

I do not mind the outcome ;-) He actually could have gotten 7 wickets in those 4 overs. Karthik dropped a difficult chance and an easy stumping. And, someone fielding at long on area dropped a high catch.

He has been reported a few time in his career but he remodeled his action a year ago and has been clean since. It's interesting now how he keeps his arm straight and how he holds the ball in his run up.

Yes, he keeps his arm straight as does Bumrah. But, see the jerk in the elbow at the time of delivery. You can see this in replays where they show the camera from behind the bowler and a bit towards the top. Bumrah's arm straightens very slightly. Narine's straightening is visible in slow motion or from the top camera. But, may be it is very little. I guess McGrath had a arm straightening of 9 degrees or so when observed in ultra-slow motion and measured with sensors. And, his delivery looked pretty clean to the naked eye.

If I really wanted to chuck, I would only chuck a few balls when the stakes were ultra-high. In knockout games and in the last overs. Cricket has to figure out how to stop strategic chucking.

A very disappointing pitch for playoff. DC may not score more than 115 runs at this rate. They are not taking 1s and 2s.

Looks like KKR will make it to the finals easily with Venkatesh Iyer taking the charge

Spoken too soon? Brilliant innings from Venkatesh Iyer, but a ridiculous collapse by the entire star-studded middle-order. Ashwin has 3 balls in which to prevent KKR making 6 runs now.

Narine goes for glory and is caught at the boundary! Ferguson in now...Ashwin on a hat-trick.

They crossed, so Tripathi takes that on, and hammers a poor ball from Ashwin for six. KKR are through.

Eoin Morgan is crap (wrt form). Karthik is past his due date. Shakib is not as reliable. The MO is flaky. Drop Morgan. But, they do not have the guts to do that. We cannot have a non-playing captain.

But, let us give thanks to where it is due. My MoM is Marcus Stoinis. It may be a tad harsh but Mr. Stoinis thankfully helped us after DC had a good start due to Shaw. He single-handedly brought us back into the game. Also thanks are due to a less extent to Risabh Pant, who has demonstrated that he cannot really hit in T20Is, where the field is spread out.

With respect to bowling, thanks are due to Nortje and Axar. They helped us notwithstanding Nortje's late wickets. By then, the game was done and dusted almost.

On the KKR side, a fantastic innings by Iyer (the V kind that is). The entire bowling lineup chipped in.

Bring on the oldies.

Spare a thought for DC!
They lost the match on last ball, 4th ball of last over and the 5th ball ! Pant if he can learn from this can become a great captain or may just not want any part of it.

Delhi Capitals were pretty poor yesterday, but they shouldn't have lost to CSK in the previous match. It was a poor decision by Pant to use Curran in the final over rather than Rabada. Interestingly, Curran didn't play at all yesterday!! Ashwin had a tough ask bowling the final over, and bowled with a side-arm action (something that Manoj Tiwary "invented" a couple of years ago in the IPL, although Ashwin's was a less drastic version). Ashwin was lucky that the first ball long-hop went for just a single, he then picked up a couple of wickets with short of length deliveries. The fifth ball to Tripathi was a short of length leg-spinner, but Tripathi nailed the lofted drive. Good attempt but it was tough for a spinner to defend six runs in an over.

Maybe. But, on current form, Rabada has been one of the worst bowlers if not the worst in the last few overs in this IPL wrt runs/over. So, after all these failures from Rabada, Pant had lost hope and wanted to try something else. It did not work.

The Indian bowlers who have bowled at below 25 avg. and below 8 runs/over (qual: 14 wickets):

Avesh 18.75/7.37
Bumrah 19.5/7.45
Shami 20.78/7.5

Chahal 20.8/7.05
Varun 22.77/6.4
Axar 20.4/6.65

It is interesting that such a mechanical system almost selects the players selected. Or at least originally selected. Got 4/6 right. Now 3/6. Not bad.

The problem with Jadeja is that he does not take that many wickets and he has not been half decent with the bat. We are going with potential. I do not mind Thakur over Avesh to get his bat but if there is an injury Avesh should come in.

PKB pointed out the futility of choosing Chahal over Chahar after the former is in form. But, Chahal had shown signs of being worked out while Chahar was doing well in the chances he got.

And, Axar over Pandya getting the axe is perhaps a result of wishful thinking that Pandya will return to form.

The oldies are going to win this. Stupid captaincy on top of the stupid batting (in the rest of the IPL, hasn't batted yet) by Eoin Morgan. Why did Lockie Ferguson get his last over after bowling 3 crappy overs? Iyer is being underbowled.
