indiansportsfan wrote: Fri Oct 08, 2021 5:57 am It's a lot easier to chase 100 in 7.3 overs than to score 270 when batting first. That's why it makes far more sense to bat second when trying to boost your NRR.
In that scenario, MI will have their NRR come up to +0.3 or so and not qualify. It is very hard for them to qualify if they bat second. Please do the numbers. I did it. The way they calculate the NRR is not to add the win RR margin per match but to calculate the total runs scores/overs faced - opponent runs scored/overs faced all together. I think long time ago, we talked about how this was a terrible way to calculate things --- maybe in a World Cup thread. But that is the way it is being done. Maybe the clouts of Mumbai Indians will get it changed to something sane the next year?
Thanks for the explanation, but I agree it is absolutely terrible. Do you know if it's the same across all tournaments, or specific to IPL?

So, after the regular season the following are the leaders wrt batting (qual: Indian, 300 runs):

SR 157: Shaw

139-143: SAY, Tripathi, Mayank, Rahul (in decreasing order)

137: Gaikwad, Samson

125-128: Dhawan, Rohit, Pant, Padikkal, Rana

119-120: Kohli, Gill.

Interesting to see that Padikkal has slowed down as he has become "famous". :-) Gill is the slowest. Tripathi is the upstart. Gaikwad moving up. 3 more games left. We will see where things end up.

DC batting is really fragile. Shaw played well today scoring 60 runs in 33 balls. Their strategy to send Axar up the order did not work. He played too slowly and it failed.

Dhawan, Iyer, and Patel dragged them back from getting 180.

You have Rabada and you opt for Curran? Brainless captaincy. Decisions like this just fuel the "it's all fixed" argument.

Can I also just add that I watch the IPL with the sound off because of the ridiculous stadium announcer. It completely destroys the whole viewing experience. You can't hear the commentators and it is just so annoying as a whole.

Actually decision looked very smart, as Curran was really good today and it looked like decision will pave off especially with him getting Moeen out the first delivery.

Rabada would have been a safe choice. Avesh Khan has looked ordinary the past two games. All his Yorkers have been full tosses. Just goes on to show how good and consistent Natraj has been. Ramada should have bowled the 19th over.

I was like really surprised that Dhoni bought himself before Jadeja. It was a brave decision and paid off. Doubtful it would have worked if Ramada was bowling

Yep, Avesh Khan got thrashed. Maybe people are preparing for him and his novelty has worn off. Anyway, anybody can have a couple of bad games. We will know in the future which it is.

Old guy takes CSK to the finals. As I had said, Dhawan, Axar, and Patel really did DC in. And, Avesh. 180 would have been par or winning on this pitch. The good thing about CSK was that the failures (Faf, Shard', 'Batty) did not waste too many balls. Mooen was almost sinking them but then he too got out at the right time and did not really waste balls. His innings helped at the end.

MI really sank in the UAE. SAY and Ishan Kishan were the key reasons, but they sort of redeemed themselves in the final match, which might have enabled one or both of them to retain their places in the India squad. Frankly I think there are many more in-form players who should get in ahead of Ishan. SAY was better form-wise, and could be retained.

Ruturaj Gaikwad remains very impressive in the UAE leg. Prithwi batted well in the key game yesterday, but his high-risk approach to batting hasn't looked too good in the UAE until this innings.

Seriously Kohli! Very poor batting by Kohli. We desperately needed kohli to get into some rhythm. His strike rate after first 10 balls is dismal.
Why does Kohl’s have 7 bowlers in his team excluding Maxwell? They just have 5 batsman and may be two bowling all rounder in Shahbaz and Dan Christian. He is well paced to defend this target with a very strong bowling line up. Need to see what happens.

What a catastrophic decision by Kohli to give Dan Christian the ball -- on a pitch that spinners have thrived on so far. Sunil Narine (with 19 runs off 4 balls, ie, 3 sixes and a single) has ended the match in that over, after his heroics with the ball earlier.

What a fight back from RCB though in vain.Perplexing decision from RCB to play Shahbaz but not give him ball. If they felt KKR has too many lefties he should not have been selected

Maxwell was ordinary bowling and was wrong to persist with him

Does RCB retain Kohli for next year.they retain Maxwell, ABD, but who are the Indian players.? Siraj and Kohli or Kohli and Padaikal or Padaikal, Kohli and Siraj? Or do they go with this IpL wonder Harshal?

Meant including.
