Kenin vs Kvitova should be an interesting SF. Kenin is a Russian-American (although a pure product of the American tennis machine); actually, the name is Latvian, but her parents speak to her in Russian at home.

Nasal has a chance for revenge! Diego is really lucky that he has 2 day to recharge his battery after a grueling five setter! If this match was played Thursday, Nadal would have won in a rout! Still Nadal will be a huge favorite!
Djoker has the easiest path to his second French open ! I don’t think he will have an easier draw than this year! I seriously think next generation is finally here and will start winning as many grand slam as the oldies starting next year ( Wimbledon may be still-be a tough nut to crack)

I think Nadal's path has been even easier. He has faced no serious challenges till now, and his next opponent (who is his first real test) is already pretty exhausted.

So it is Kenin vs Swiatek. Kenin was always a prodigy. Now she is getting into full flow.

Sofia Kenin in her second Slam final of the year. She is an incredible retriever -- gets to balls that most other players wouldn't. Kvitova had power on her side (much bigger serve and ground-strokes, plus net play), but Kenin's retrieving ability (plus the early break in the first set) got her through. Late in the second set, Kvitova's first serve became less reliable as well, as she came under more pressure.
I was hoping Kvitova would win this match (and hence the final). After suffering that horrific burglary (in which she was slashed with a knife on her playing arm), one's sympathies are always with her. But the commentators asked Kenin before the match, "do you agree with us that Kvitova, when she is on song, is the best woman player in the world at the moment?". A pretty unfair question to ask of the reigning Australian Open champion!

So the final pits a 21 year old against a 19 year old. I didn't get to watch Swiatek, but she wasn't really challenged by the qualifier today. Kenin certainly looks like the favourite. But she was double-bagelled by Azarenka in the Rome Masters just a fortnight ago!

The top players know how to use every rule to their advantage. No point lamenting this -- best to learn the tricks from them!
Nadal has again entered the final without losing a set in the tournament. Roland Garros is simply his favourite place. He lost in the SF in Rome to this same player, Schwartzman, but today he went through in easy straight sets!

Djokovic took 5 sets to down Tsipitsas. So, super battle expected in the final between him and Nadal. I think Nadal is favourite to win his 13th French open title and 20th grand slam which will tie him with Roger Federer for most grand slam titles.

19 year old Iga Swiatek becomes the first Polish player ever to win a grand slam title. She is also the youngest to win a grand slam since Monica Seles and she did it without dropping a set. What a story !!!

Iga Swiatek won the women's title without drawing a set. She has an all-round game, albeit without a dominant serve. But her groundstrokes, drop-shots and volleys were very impressive. I hope she doesn't go the way of Ostapenko in the next couple of years.

Nadal catches up with Federer. So now the argument is that Federer is more of an all-round player than Nadal is, but Nadal's high on his favorite court is unparalleled. Maybe Djokovic will overtake both.

Re: 2020 French Open (postponed to 20Sept-4Oct)
That argument kind of fails given Federer's period of clear dominance was bashing up Hewitt and Roddick and has an inferior h2h against both Nadal and Djokovic.
Obviously the debate will never have a clear answer but for me, Federer would be behind both Nadal and Djokovic.

Utterly brilliant, clinical performance by Rafa today. The Emperor of Clay by a long way.
