Ankita lost in the singles R2 to her doubles opponent, but they are through to the doubles QF with a walkover. Singles:

[R2] Ankita Raina (IND, 166) l. Suzan Lamens (NED, 318) 63 26 36

Lamens was playing something like her 15th match (in 3-4 tournaments) in the last couple of months. The Europeans are match-fit at the moment.

Ankita is playing the $80K Cagnes-Sur-Mer ITF and is the top seed in the singles qualifying draw. She is slated to meet world number 6 junior Elisa Jacquemot in the next round, provided she wins her QR1 match against WTA #545 Tayisiya Morderger from Germany. This event is a competitive field with the main draw cut off at 142. I hope Ankita qualifies, even though the junior player may be the favorite to win on home soil. :goodluck:

Ankita comfortably won her Q1 match 64 60.
She plays Elsa Jacquemot (FRA, 658) next -- the world junior #6, who won her Q1 match (against the 10th seed) in a 3rd set STB (10-7).

And we sing paeans about our mediocre players and curse their luck in making it to the main draws or running into “hot” streaky unfancied opponents. The truth is that our players can barely hold their own even in qualies. But, there’s always a reason to delude ourselves. Yup, it must have been match fitness this time.

Ankita has shown pretty poor form on clay, so she isn't going to the French Open qualifiers with too much confidence. She was in better shape last year, when she looked very capable of winning a round or two in all the Slam qualifiers.

Ankita’s name appears in a couple of US ITF Challengers. It would be rather foolish of her to come to the US amidst all the mishandling of this virus (these tournaments are in the South, too)! She could have stayed in the EU. Will have to wait and see if she actually took such a gamble once the draws are posted!

Europe is no better in terms of Covid now. I think Ankita has travelled to US, she pulled out of couple of tournaments in France in last 2 weeks.

Yeah, the Coronavirus situation is pretty much the same in most places, except in a few countries in Asia and then AUS/NZL. Actually the number of people who are currently infectious who you may run into and get it from, may be more in Europe than in India and USA.

Yes, she’s in Macon, Georgia, as per her Instagram story. There are 4 back to back tournaments in the US and she needs to qualify for the main draw in the first 3 weeks (4th week EL is not out!). :goodluck:

At $80K ITF Women,Marcon,Georgia, USA

[Q1] (7) Ankita Raina (IND,179) vs. Jovan Jovic (SRB,238)

Ankita beat Jovic in 3 close sets in French open qualies. This could be another close one.

Ankita wins in the STB. Phew! Up against Talaba, ranked lower than her but has had wins over Brengle, Bouchard last year. :goodluck:
