Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
No, we DO need to open up. The real screwup will be if we stay locked down and screwed ourselves economically when everybody else opened. Enough of locking down.
Actually as I look closely at the numbers, today is quite okay. Frankly it is the +200 in Udupi that just shocked me. Isolated issue, it seems.
Update: +182 in J&K,
Update: +143 in TEL
Update: It was only +1150 in Mumbai today.
Update: MAH testing. 12,770 today, so it was 19% positivity. Not getting worse, I guess.
Thought: Death numbers are not great, from MAH. +139....
Hope: May stay under 10K after all?
Update: +1330 in DEL. Phew... At least that didn't spike to 2000 or anything!
Update: +154 in RAJ (night) for +222 in the day.
Update: +33 in JH (night) for +95 in the day
Wondering: Did they actually quarantine that health minister Himant Biswa Sarma from Assam? No tweets from him. Maybe he sleeps, wakes up at 10:30 pm and keeps tweeting till midnight with Assam updates. Just give it the next day, sir
Update: +234 in MP
Update: Himant Biswa Sarma was visiting some hospital at 10 pm, as per his tweet... Go to sleep, man.
Update: +127 in ASM (11:05 pm) as per the sleepless man in Guwahati. I will go with that number.
+9406 and that's it for the day, it seems, barring a +TPR and any others (can't be more than 200).

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
Leg, or peg? Looks like you will not have to drink. We may be even under +9500 today. I did panic on getting up and seeing 500+ in KAR, 100+ in Kerala and 500+ in Gujarat, but as it turned out, India refuses to allow the virus to run rampant even now. It is a drop in daily additions today, and with 3% more tests at 143K. I am a happy man. I may even fix myself a drink. A nice tea with Assam leaves.

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
It was a pretty damn good day, though it started in a scary way with the +200 in Udupi, which has suddenly become one of the fastest raging hot spots we have. Some 600+ cases in the last 3-4 days. But all kinds of areas have totally calmed down now. All of Maharashtra is out of my bad list today, unbelievable as it seems. Assuming we will get the Tripura numbers only tomorrow (as it is past midnight now), here are the stats:
Update: Tripura came in at 12:30 am. +48 from 1026 tested samples (good job, Tripura!)
+9454 to 236,176 with a daily growth of only 4.17% and a doubling period of 17.0 days.
Deaths: +286 to 6,649, so the overall death rate moved up a small bit to 2.82%
Recoveries: +4,777 to 113,231, so the overall recovery is 47.0% of the cases so far.
Today's Bad Areas:
+1330 (5.1%) to 26334 in Delhi, DEL
+1266 (5.9%) to 22620 (+1116+86+64 tp 19809+1623+1188) in Chennai/Chengalpattu/Thiruvallur, TN
+496 (5.4%) to 9733 in the state of UP.
+326 (7.4%) to 4714 in the ring and other districts outside Kolkata, WB
+316 (11.0%) to 3597 in the state of HAR
+204 (36.1%) to 768 in Udupi, KAR
No other contiguous areas had a growth rate above our national average today (4.15%) and 200+ new cases. The bad areas together had +3938 cases to take their total to 67,766 cases at a bad area growth rate of 6.17%... The rest of the country had +5516 cases to take their total to 168,410 at a good area growth rate of 3.39%.

^^^ I didn't know that you were gone for that long, when I saw your post in this thread recently. Great to have you back. Yeah, the old timers are all here. Like, 10 of us ... Others may look at the site once sports starts again. Who knows when!
Looks like Saniapower hasn't appeared for 2 years since 2018 Wimbledon.

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
ICMR update: 4,524,317 Tests, total... Friday tests: 137,938. A little less than the last two days with 139K and 143K tests. So let us hope for something in the +9500-9800 range tomorrow.
# of Testing Labs update: +18 to 742... This is good. It is 710 to 724 to 742 in two days. At least ICMR and the states are not expecting any slowdown and are setting up the labs by the bushels everyday. Just two weeks ago, it was around 580 labs. To keep the ability to test at the 4 to 7 percent positivity we look for, the lab numbers need to grow at the rate at which our daily additions grow. It is generally doing that now. That is nice to see. Lots of right things going on in the background that nobody is noticing, really!
Saturday numbers start with a not-so-great addition of +582 in the Unassigned land of limbo patients.

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
Here is a really nice thread that Ashwini Bhide had with a lot of responses by her to people's questions during the last day or so.
Nice of her to answer a lot of questions on hospital matters, but as always, she would not touch the tweets fromso many people asking about the tests. A lot of people have slowly started seeing the importance of it. It is so noticeable that she and other officials in Mumbai will simply not say anythig about testing. They know that they were never doing enough. The above dashboard also avoids it, though it says "swabs taken: 5773" as a data point.

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
Looks like Covid19india reduced yesterday's total to +9380. Not sure from where. Maybe the tweet from the ASM health minister past midnight was moved to today's count. Anyway, we start from 236,102...
+582 UNA, +193 ODI, +184 HAR (early), +147 BIH, +94 JH, +81 ASM (5 pm), +44 RAJ (early), +30 UK.
Update: +210 in AP... They test too much! ...
Update: +108 in KER (64 from abroad, 34 from other states, 10 local contact infections)
Update: +378 in KAR (+121 in Udupi in the S/W and 69+103 in Kalaburagi/Yadgir in the N/W; that's it)
Update: +1478 in TN (with +1146 in Chennai) - Is this leveling off in TN??? It just may be. Cross your fingers.
Data: 16022 tests in TN today. 9.2% positivity. Almost exactly the same positives and positivity as yesterday!
News: Only +10 in Dharavi today for 1899 cases among 1 million people. BMC has won this battle against the virus, I think.
Update: +54 in Punjab. That is one state taking care of business. Virus is very much contained there.
Update: +73 in ASM to 154 total today. More coming from our favorite minister Sarma, I'm sure.
Update: +498 in GUJ. So they are holding at their numbers again. Testing marginally better these days.
Update: +435 in WB. This state isn't in a mood to slow down yet. Pretty sturdy growth lately.
Update: +2739 in MAH. Not going up, not coming down... +120 deaths; so that didn't get worse.
Data: 14178 tests in MAH today. Positivity is 19.3, a bit better than yesterday.
Hope: Can Delhi stay under +1500?
Update: +143 in J&K
+7570 for the day. MP, UP, DEL, TEL, TRP, +HAR, +RAJ to come. Maybe some +ASM too. We will probably cross 10K...

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
I think it is time for Mamata to take a look at West Bengal's testing again. WB's testing rate drastically improved to 9000 per day by May 23rd but has not improved in 15 days, as the daily numbers have gone up from around 175 to now 450+. Two to three times the cases, and the positivity is again back up to 5% ... Unless they stop the Rasagola testing and actually trace and test more, they will be in trouble pretty soon.
Update: +58 in UK (night) for 88 today.
News: Mumbai had +1274 today. But if you read the news reports, Mumbai is still "spiking", 15 days after it stopped spiking!
Update: +370 in UP, as per the minister 3 hours ago. Let's go with that. Lately his number has been close to final.
Update: +1320 in Delhi (the Delhi case growth has moved to Haryana)
Update: +209 in RAJ for 253 in the day
Update: +232 in MP
Update: +206 in TEL (Are the chickens coming too roost in Telangana? I remain concerned)
Update: +171 in HAR (night update) for 355 today.
+10,145 with some late updates from the Northeast to come. And we finally cross 10K
So I assume Omkara's frustration went up a peg, and he is on his last leg of patience.
