No, W.Bengal has been steadily raising their testing rate over the last 4 weeks. They went up from 2000 to 5000 per day between May 1st and 10th or so, and went up to 8700 each on the 19th and the 20th. Dropped to 4.2K on Thursday and 5.5K today, due to storm issues. That's all.

West bengal's comeback in the testing matter to one of the best testing states over the last 3-4 weeks has been an extremely pleasant story. I even gave Mamata a :notworthy: recently.

As per BMC, the Mumbai cases are +1750. The state's number may be slightly different (but in the ball park)

3,32,777 total tested in MAH so far. So it is +13,067 from yesterday. Went up by 500 but not enough. The positivity just went up from 18.5% yesterday to 22.5% today. Is there no end to this bullshit in MAH? Is any of the buffoons watching?

(Sad to see that what Fadnavis said yesterday got NO publicity in the Mumbai newspapers. The state is filled with idiots. What to do?)
Fadnavis's protests are highlighted on some of the Marathi news channels but half of those asked on the channel discussions are saying not right to bring politics at this stage. Nobody is talking about the real issue of low mumber of testing but on whether it is right to raise this issue at this stage.

One of the most irritating things for me, is when people say "dont bring politics and religion into this". It is almost always said when politics and religion MUST enter the discussion, and it is always to push something important under the rug. That is the fact.

Update: I must have miscounted somewhere. Adding the +117 from RAJ and +15 from Jharkhand to Covid19india's 5848, it is now a +5980, with TEL, MP and UP to come.

Update: +62 from TEL. Most probably they just copied the +62 their neighbors AP had today. We know that they test nobody in TEL.
Update: +5 night update from UK.
Update: +189 in MP, it seems. To be confirmed. EDIT: Covid19india also accepts that number.
Update: +61 more in BIH on a night update. +179 for the day.
UP to come (over +250 is my guess for UP). Update: +220 to 5735 in UP

+6518 to 124,743 is near-final by my count.

Over the past few weeks, I have downgraded India's response from B to C- (the US in the same time frame has gone from a D to C-)

We have already lost 2% of GDP, and haven't gotten to a point where we have enough testing and tracing capabilities, nor have we gotten to the peak of the first wave either in number of new cases or in case positivity rate.

Not great.

Assam had some 40+ cases come in late.

+6570 to 124,794 today... That is a 5.56% growth at 12.9 day doubling rate.

The latest death count is +142 to a 3726 total which is only 2.17% today, in relation to new cases. We just fell below 3.00 on overall death rate, to 2.98%

We had +3,271 recoveries to a 51,824 total. The overall recovery rate is 41.5%

Bad areas:

+2200 (7.2%) to 32968 (+1751+449 to 27251+5717) in Mumbai/Thane, MAH
+412 (6.6%) to 6621 outside Mumbai/Thane/Pune in the state of MAH
+661 (6.0%) to 11008 (+569+40+39+13 to 9370+691+675+272) Chennai/Turuvallur/Chengalpattu/Kancheepuram, TN
+660 (5.7%) to 12319 in Delhi, DEL
+328 (7.0%) to 4993 in Pune, MAH
+217 (15.5%) to 1620 in the mysterious state of the "Unassigned"
+178 (9.0%) to 2166 in the state of BIH

Basically two cities and one state, and another poor state that suffers from the stupidity of that one state (it is growing at 6to 10% rate in EVERY damn district in Maharashtra now, and they still won't do pool tests, and are getting a clue)

No other contiguous areas had a growth rate above our national average today (5.51%) and 150+ new cases. These areas together had +4656 to take their total to 71,695 at a bad area growth rate of 6.94%... The rest of the country had 1914 cases to take their total to 53,099 at a good area growth rate of 3.74%.

That is a little too harsh, Sin Hombre. There is no issue outside of one state. And testing capacity is very much there, and so many states are doing pool tests super quickly. We can do 300K tests a day if we want right now at nearly 600 labs, with pool tests possible almost everywhere at the positivity we have.

One stupid state simply will not test. What can we do? Send military into Maharashtra?

I had been saying for a month that hell could break loose by now. Mumbai press is responsible for not getting to the bottom of anything. Then Mumbai people. They let an irresponsible government and an irresponsible and clueless bureaucracy continue for an extra 4 to 6 weeks without tracing, testing and preventing this mess. We all knew. Nobody in Mumbai outside of the few of you seems to have had any idea what was going wrong. Terrible. Argh.

ICMR update. 2,834,798 tests. Latest 24 hours: 115,364 !! Wow, another jump. Increase by 12K from yesterday.

We went over 2000 tests per million to 2056. The positivity has gone up a bit from 4.0 to 4.4% now, thanks to you know which state.

I only wish even 1000 extra cases out of that 12K were done by the state that brings in 40% of our cases now. Hardly 13% of the tests are done by that state. And the state officials are running around like headless chicken, stupid to the core, and without a clue on what they are doing wrong.

We will overtake Iran over the next couple of days to take 10th position in total number of cases according to worldometer. Brazil has just taken second spot from Russia.

Karnataka has reported 196 new cases. Most of the cases are assigned to two districts, Yadgir and Raichur.
... 172 out of the new cases reported were returnees from neighbouring Maharashtra. The others include two from Gujarat, one each from Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, 15, who are contacts of patients who have already tested positive and three with Influenza like illness (ILI).
