Tell me about it! It is like these people suddenly woke up and saw how much of a struggle it is for anybody not in the top 100 or 200.

Sarah Borewell said there about Golf having it right, has some merit. Really, the problem is that the prize money has a gradation that is sort of similar to the ranking points. It makes logical sense to keep the same kind of dropping curve for both, otherwise it causes inconsistencies and ranking and earning. On the other hand, it does not have to be so steep. i.e., The winner doesn't have to get twice as much money and points as the runner. Level it out a bit more, and the prize money also will spread out a bit more (keeping the total prize money same at the events). But ATP has had pretty much the same drop-off curve for 40 years. It's a long discussion, and maybe I will run some analysis of the numbers at some future point when we are done with Covid-19....

There is news coming thru that they are now planning to hold US open in Indian wells instead of New York and in November. I do know if that will also be possible.

I dont why only those below 500 are selected. I think those between 200 and 500 also need some help using the same criterion.

I think the amount is really small. So diluting it even further would make the amount meaningless.

Agree that those in the 200-500 level need support also but this pool was too small to help them....

So, US open is confirmed now on the same dates as earlier in the end August without spectators. This is a related article -

There will be no qualifying for the tournament. So, our players like Prajnesh and Sumit would not usually get in. But, lets see if the field is much weakened. French open is scheduled in 2 weeks time after US open and many European may prefer to stay put in Europe and prepare for French open.

Yes, WTA tour starting from August 3. Also ITF tour and ATP challenger tours.

I learnt there are regular flights run by Air India to various locations called evacuation flights and mostly going empty.

The hard court season will basically be played in New York City (the world's worst-afflicted city by Covid-19). The "Cincinnati" Masters will be played at Flushing Meadows, and then the US Open. This is insanity!

So Djokovic organized an Adriatic tour and followed no guidelines in terms of distancing and both Dimitrov and Coric are sick with coronavirus.

I find it hard to see tennis coming back this season with tennis players being idiots generally.
