Updating our singles top 10 after a long time -

82 Gunneswaran, Prajnesh
129 Sumit Nagal (CH)
182 Ramkumar Ramanathan
229 Sasi Kumar Mukund (CH)
258 Saketh Myneni
530 Siddharth Rawat
555 Arjun Kadhe
686 Manish Sureshkumar
828 Aryan Goveas
912 Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha

Both Sumit and Mukund are at their career high's and have been real bright spot for us this year apart from Prajnesh in early part of the year. Others have all either stagnated or gone down. Our quality below top 5 has gone down significantly and someone needs to come up soon to supplement Sumit and Mukund.

There will be a healthy competition between Prajnesh and Sumit for year ending India #1. Prajnesh has 267 points to defend for rest of the year while Sumit only has 30 to defend. So, if we take out those points Prajnesh goes down to 393 points and Sumit on 405. So, Sumit is in fact a bit ahead and if he continues to do better than Prajnesh for rest of the year, he will finish as India #1. I really wish both in strong performances and end the year in top 100. Both will need another challenger title and couple more SF/finals to do that though in 4-5 tournaments which they will be playing this year.

With the challenger season over and none of our top 10 having entered the futures in the next few weeks, we can update our year end top 10 rankings-

2019 year end ATP singles rankings - mens singles - (with last year's ranking in brackets)

125 Gunneswaran, Prajnesh (110)
131 Sumit Nagal (340)
176 Ramkumar Ramanathan (133)
271 Sasi Kumar Mukund (295)
392 Saketh Myneni (259)
498 Siddharth Rawat (432)
596 Arjun Kadhe (392)
671 Manish Sureshkumar (581)
823 Aryan Goveas
972 S.D. Prajwal Dev

The one who has been standout performer of the year is clearly Sumit. Then Mukund and at lower level Aryan and Prajwal are the ones with some improvement. Rest all have gone down.

Frankly not much expectation now from Saketh now. Hope RamK comes back stronger next year. Sumit continues his progress towards too 100 and Mukund towards top 200.

2018 year end rankings in bracket-

38 Rohan Bopanna (37)
46 Divij Sharan (39)
89 Purav Raja (91)

111 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (75)
134 Ramkumar Ramanathan (233)
137 N. Sriram Balaji (111)

2019 year end WTA rankings ( last year's rankings in brackets)

180 Ankita Raina (205)
368 Riya Bhatia (555)
465 Rutuja Bhosale (344)
568 Karman Thandi (207)
619 Sowjanya Bavisetti (746)
649 Pranjala Yadlapalli (288)
746 Zeel Desai (769)
788 Mahak Jain (521)
890 Sathvika Sama
904 Jeniffer Luikham (809)
809 Jennifer Luikham (1099)

After an excellent year in 2018, this turned out to be a bad year for our womens tennis mainly because 2 of our most promising players, Karman and Prajnaja had a long layoff due to injuries and their rankings nosedived due to that. Ankita is back inside top 200 and the only other player who seems to have made significiant progress is Riya Bhatia is now India #2.

With limited play this year alomst everyone's ranking has come down from last year's close.

This week's ATP rankings can now be called year end rankings as only Mukund among our top 10 player is playing now in Doha futures and rest have all finished their year. So, these are the year end rankings for our men with last year's ranking in bracket-

185 Ramkumar Ramanathan (190)
216 Gunneswaran, Prajnesh (129)
220 Sumit Nagal (136)
420 Sasi Kumar Mukund (300)
557 Saketh Myneni (450)
559 Siddharth Rawat (460)
675 Manish Sureshkumar (657)
742 Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha (836)
775 Arjun Kadhe (659)
866 Abhinav Sanjeev (914)

So, except RamK and at lower end Manish, Miki and Abhinav everyone else has had a big drop in the rankings this year. Bad year for us.

I roughly know this and can look it up. But, maybe for the future, if we have it, can we put the ages of the players along with the rankings. That would mean easy access when we look this up in the future after a few years, etc. say. And, give us an idea of the up and comers. I know you guys do a lot of work to put this information together. Just a request if people think that is a good idea. Thanks much again.

Any hopes on the 22-23 year olders: Manish S., Abhinav, and Nitin improving?

While RamK has remained India #1 for whole of this year, he has a big cache of points to defend for rest of the year. So, year end India #1 spot will be up for grabs between 4 contenders technically.

Taking a looks at the points earned by our top 4 players this year which will remain in their kitty at the end of the year-

Ramkumar Ramanathan- 82 points- On schedule for 2 Japan challengers starting October 31
Prajnesh Gunneswaran - 117 points - On schedule for 2 Australian challengers in next 2 weeks and US challenger the week thereafter
Sasikumar Mukund- 124 points- On schedule for 2 Australian challengers in next 2 weeks and Japan challenger the week thereafter
Sumit Nagal- 63 points- On schedule for 2 challengers in South America the week after next

So, Prajnesh and Mukund have a great chance to get India #1 position at the end of year. Ramkumar will need to win a bunch of points at Japan challengers to remain India #1 . Sumit will have to essentially win a challenger or something to get to India #1.

With all due respect, year end #1 is over-rated as long as the ranking takes the last 12 months into account.

Every nation has their own #1's , and for us all this is meaningless if the results are ordinary, and right now only Sumit showing some sparks and glimpses of quality play, rest all of them playing rubbish Tennis.

So, updating the year end ATP doubles ranking ( where we have improvement over last year)-

These are top 10-

19 Rohan Bopanna (43)
71 Ramkumar Ramanathan (144)
84 Saketh Myneni (329)
96 Yuki Bhambri (890)
114 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (191)
115 N. Sriram Balaji (173)
146 Divij Sharan (119)

^^^ I know nobody cares for doubles, but this was serious improvement. Divij is the only player who went down a bit. And a couple of players (Niki and Rithvik) are bound to be inside top-200 in due course of time too.,

^^^ It seems everyone but I cares about doubles in this forum. I can’t stand it or rather be left eating leftovers forever.

How many more ATP or even Higher level challenger titles have these folks won this year? Or are they like the Indian cricketers always worried about rankings but haven’t won anything meaningful?
