Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread
Sameer, thanks for the explanation. But it is a question of playing challengers now vs playing challengers later. I understand the logic of getting these points so that he does not miss the Australian Open.

Not so successful attempts at Jinan and Shanghai. Anybody knows what's his schedule post Kaohsiung?

Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread
He has defended only 58 of these 279 points. Kaohsiung is his best chance to defend the Bangalore points (125). Then Pune.sameerph wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 5:43 am Prajnesh has huge 279 points to defend for rest of the year ( i.e 45% of his total points of 610).He needs to earn at least 200 of those points in rest of the year to stay inside top 100 and get direct entry into Australian open. It is almost impossible to earn those many points playing only ATP events for Prahnesh. He will need to reach final of one of the ATP events or reach couple of SF's to do so. So, he has to mix in challengers rather then going for broke and ending up outside 150 and then again try to make his way up by playing challengers at that time.
The challenge r tour continues till Nov end. So he has time to defend his points. The sooner he does the better it is.

Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread
Surprisingly he has not entered any of the Asian ATP series events in next 3 weeks. So, looks like he has decided now to concentrate on challengers for rest of the year in order to defend those points. I think he will need around 170 points more to stay in top 100 by end of the year and make AO main draw.

Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread
At the start of the week Prajnesh had to defend 279 points until the end of the year out of which 10 he has defended in Kaoshuing
Now most probably he will appear in Chinese challengers from Oct 13 starting in Ningbo and than the Pune Challenger , In between 3 weeks in China and India there is Kobe Japan ,Assuming he plays all of those 5 tournaments he has to accumulate 269 points in all 5 of them to protect his ranking, and to achieve that he has to win atleast 2 and consistently make semis in the rest to protect the 269 points.
A very tall order and a realistic target would be to make sure he protect's atleast 70 to 75% of 269 points to ensure a direct entry into the AO.

Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread
Yes, 70% would take his tally to 570.. even 550 might take him over the line but that will be too risky. It implies that he has to gain net 170 points by November end. The 5 tournaments' points of 270 will fall off and will be replaced with 3 zero pointers and addition of 10+6. So if he can gain 170 from 5 tournaments, he should make it. Apart from China, there are a bunch of challengers in Germany simultaneously. I wonder whether he'll choose that route considering Waske University as his training base. He also gets that extra challenger in Italy/Portugal, the last challengers on the tour, which will be easier to travel within Europe itself. Things will get clearer in 3-4 days as the entry lists for Ningbo and Ismaning become available

Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread
He features in the Ningbo entry list and Ram will play in Ismaning. Prajnesh is also 1 spot away from making it to Beijing 500 qualies list (starting 30th September) It needs to be seen whether he'll play if he gets in coz as per TOI article he's taking a 3 week break to take care of physical issues

Thanks Rohit for the info.
The official withdrawal for players i think is every Friday or Monday and after that , the final list is officially put by ATP, MTF has regressed and infact they just post from Tennis Teen.

Other Lists
This guy gives line-by-line updates and is a good supplement to the above mentioned link. Looks like Praj may not go to Beijing or it would have reflected somewhere as IN: Gunneswaran

Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread
Looks like Prajnesh has pulled out of Beijing. He had made it to qualifying draw but pulled out today.
