Superb fighting wins by Sumit ... Next, he is facing a Brazilian Joao Menezes ... In their last meeting in May'19, Sumit lost in the semis against Menezes in the Samarkand Challenger (clay) after winning the first set, 75 46 36 ... Recently, Menezes showing a consistent performance on the hardcourt.

Prajnesh having a tough match against the in-form and the Cincinnati Masters champion, Daniil Medvedev ... A very tough match.

At US Open 2019, New York, U.S.A.

[Q3] Sumit Nagal (IND,190) vs Joao Menezes (BRA,210)

[R1] Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,89) vs (5) Daniil Medvedev (RUS,5)

Bummer of a draw for Prajnesh. Medvedev is the hottest player on tour, winner of the Cincinnati Masters, finalist at the Canadian Masters.

[Q3] Sumit Nagal (IND,190) vs Joao Menezes (BRA,210)

Sumit and his opponent are both 22 years old, both have clay as their favoured surface, and both are now at their career-high rankings. Given those rankings, Sumit is the slight favourite in this match -- but Menezes has won both their previous matches in close 3-setters on outdoor clay. Sumit's current form (he has won both his matches in straight sets, including over the seeded player in Q1) suggests that he will indeed win this big match. Menezes has won his matches in long 3-setters, the Q2 match in a 3rd set tiebreaker. Sumit should try to finish his match in 2 sets, and he will win!

[R1] Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,89) vs (5) Daniil Medvedev (RUS,5)

Prajnesh has had wretched luck, drawing the in-form Medvedev here -- after the grass-court ace Milos Raonic at Wimbledon. He should just play "no-pressure" tennis, and show how good he is on a show court.

Great going for Sumit! Would love to see 2 Indian men in the main draw of a slam again.

Damn, Sumit lost the first set 5-7. He had 3 bp opportunities with with Brazilian serving at 5-5, 0-40 but Sumit could not convert and then could not convert another one at ad-in. Then, lost his own serve serving at 5-6 after being 40-15 up. :-( :-(

Sumit just won 7 games in a row!

He leads 57 64 30 - with a double break!!

57 64 40 now... he just needs to keep it together and he's through.

Now 3 straight games for Menezes. Can Nagal hold his nerve? 57 64 43
