Re: Ankita Raina thread
Good wins by Ankita! Although not the same player now due to age and injuries, Sabine Lisicki made the 2013 Wimbledon final, so she can play on grass.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Lisicki, former Wimbledon finalist, is down with recurring knee injury. But still good of Ankita to beat her.Saniapower wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 6:06 pm At $100K ITF Women, Surbitron, Great Britain (Grass)

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Sad that she lost in the first round of the main draw. But defeating Sabine Lisicki in Q2 is a memorable scalp -- especially on grass. Lisicki is a seriously good grass court player, who beat Serena in R4 on the way to making the 2013 Wimbledon final. She used to make it a habit of beating the reigning French Open champion at Wimbledon (including Serena in 2013). In 2011 she made the SF at Wimbledon (after entering as a wildcard), beating FO champ Li Na in R2; in 2012, she beat FO champ Sharapova in R4 (avenging the loss in the SF the previous year); she had also beaten FO champ Kuznetsova at Wimbledon in 2009. In 2013, she was definitely the hot favourite to win Wimbledon -- because she'd been dominant on the grass right through the tournament -- but Marion Bartoli somehow managed to win the title against a nervy Lisicki, and the latter has never quite been the same since.
Nonetheless, that was a HUGE win on grass for Ankita over the 2013 Wimbledon singles runner-up.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
How many of the men in the Golden Oldies thread can say they have beaten a USO champion (who was also FO finalist) and a Wimbledon runner-up? Ankita has had a couple of truly big scalps this year.

Ankita enters into the final qualifying round as Kai-Lin retired from the match after losing the first set ... She is facing an Aussie, Ellen Perez, who defeated her higher-ranked countrywoman Birrell.

She lost in 3 sets.
[R1] (LL) Ankita Raina (IND,173) l. (LL) Chloe Paqyet (FRA,168) 75 46 26
Unfortunate that Ankita could not take advantage of that lucky break in the draw.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita had a one sided loss in the Birminghan WTA qualies.
At Nature Valley Classic, Birmingham,UK
[Q1] Ankita Raina (IND,173) l. (3) Jessica Pegula (USA,75) 16 06
Not the ideal preparation for Wimbledon qualies for Ankita.
