Not to be in tie break. A few errors. Marginal between forced/unforced. The pressure from Karlovic helped. One of those matches Prajnesh will learn from. Doubt Prajnesh has ever played anyone like Karlovic. I guarantee you that next time Prajnesh plays him he will beat Karlovic but that doesn't help him today.

Yes, great run by the Gunner. He lost by around the similar margin as #49 (Ebden) and #12 (Coric), so no shame in this loss. Hopefully, he can take this forward and get more wins at the ATP level tournaments.

Agreed. Looks like Gunner couldn’t figure out Ivo in time, he was getting there in the 2nd set but ran out of time. The way to handle Karlovic is to keep holding till you get to the tie-breaks and then pull off a stunt or two that surprises Ivo and hold on to ride out the tie-breaks. Easier said than done, however...but most others in the top 100 have figured out that this is the way to handle him.

But Gunner impressed with his running, hanging in there and staying mentally focused throughout. Forehand could become a formidable weapon. Onward to the next event.

A pity he couldn't pull it off. Karlovic is a one-dimensional player, so the trick is to figure out how to lob or pass the tall man at the net, or somehow break his serve once. Ideally, Prof's plan of a few stunts in the tiebreaker is the best way to get him. PG came close in the second set, but not quite close enough.

I hope he can avoid the qualifiers in Miami -- but probably not, yet.

So, a great run ends for Prajnesh. But, he has earned confidence and points from this run to boost his confidence. Hopefully, he will qualify into main draw at Miami too.

It has to feel good (despite the loss) to have been on the same roster for the day/round as Djokovic vs Kohlschreiber and (the biggie) Federer vs Wawrinka!

Jimmy Connors was in the top-100 when he retired at the age of 40 yrs in 1992.
Yes, sorry for overlooking Connors. He remained in the top-50 until he turned 40 in September 1992, and didn't retire until he was 43 (although he fell out of the top-100 by the time he was 41). Of course, no patch on Ken Rosewall, who was ranked world number 2 at 40+ in mid-1975 -- when Connors himself was still #1, having beaten the old man in easy straight sets in both the Wimbledon and US Open final in 1974. (Oddly Rosewall didn't play the Australian Open in 1974 or 1975; Connors won his only AO title in 1974, losing the final in 1975 to Newcombe).

A great run by Gunner comes to an end. But nevertheless a great result.
He is following exact performance pattern as of Yuki in 2018. Hope he repeats his performance only and not injuries. :goodluck:

Several top players did not used to go to the Aussie Open regularly. Or at least missed it once in a while. It was sort of a slightly less than first-tier slam. Not anymore, of course.

Yuki had a career high of 83. Prajnesh is touch and go in overtaking him this week.
.
Prajnesh is still 82 in live rankings. But, still 5 players below him alive at IW/Phoenix and Drummondville Challengers (Gojowczyk,Andreozzi,Kecmanović,Ruud,Berankis and Harrison). Andreozzi and Kecmanović can overtake him with 1 more win at Phoneix/Indian Wells. Others need multiple wins.

1-2 spots here and there does not really matter. But, just having some fun following if Pranesh can overtake Yuki's career high in next Monday's ranking itself.

Andreozzi overtakes Prajnesh and Prajnesh moved down to #83 in live rankings. Others have all fallen now except Berankins who can overtake Prajnesh only if he wins the Phoeneix challenger. ( in the QF now).

Berankis is in the Phoenix final, so it is possible that Prajnesh will not pass Yuki's career-high this coming Monday. But he surely will do so within the next few weeks.

Miami qualifiers only begin on Monday. Prajnesh may have to play them; although his current ranking should comfortably get him into the main draw, the ranking was lower at the tournament-entry time.
