He lost against Ignatik in the second round ... After losing the first set Ram was up with a break in the second set ... He failed to keep advantage as Ignatik broke him twice to win the match.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
RamK is playing qualies at New York ATP from today.
At $695K New York Open
[Q1] (3) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,133) vs. (WC) Roy Smith (USA,328)
Despite his low rankings, 20 year Smith reached the final of Houston challenger in November and reached the QF of a challenger in January beating Donald Young on the way. So, it will not be as easy a match as it looks as per rankings for RamK against an young upstart.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
The qualifiers have a very good draw in this tournament with 2 of them playing each other and one other playing a WC. Best of luck to RamK on taking out his Q2 opponent Tim Smyczek. RamK beat Smyczek last year, so he should draw confidence from that win.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
That was on grass which is mostly RamK's favorite surface. This match is on hard courts. So, it will be a tougher test.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Though he beat the 7th seed in the qualies here, I think Smyczek hasn't been playing all that well lately though. A decent chance for RamK here, but anything can happen because Smyczek is on and off, just as RamK has been too, lately.

[Q2] (3) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,128) d. Tim Smyczek (USA,190) : 6-3, 3-6, 7-5
That brings up...
[R1] (Q) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,128) vs. Jason Jung (TPE, 143)
29 year old Jung lost to Saketh at Pune Q1. He also lost at Aus Open Q2 to 185 ranked Moriya. In the 10 matches he played so far this year, he won 5 (against players ranked 226, 253, 257, 250, 323) and lost 5 (to players ranked 130, 185, 196, 259, 291). Perfect opportunity for RamK to advance to R2 for a date with second seed Taifoe.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Good win by RamK!
Decent opportunity to win a round as well. Interestingly, he may have the toughest draw among the 4 qualifiers, 2 of whom play each other and the 3rd plays an unheralded WC. Furthermore, Tiafoe is the toughest foe you could get in the second round.

At $695K New York Open
[R1] (Q) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,128) l. Jason Jung (TPE, 143) 36 63 16
This is one of the easiest matches one would get at an ATP tournament. So, disappointing that RamK could not pull off a win in this. RamK's form continues to be patchy.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Disappointing loss in R1 to a player he should have beaten, but good to see RamK qualifying into an ATP tournament with a very good win in Q2.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
In QF, Jason Jung took the sixth seed Sam Querry to three sets before losing out 3-6, 6-3, 3-6. So he was on some form this week.
This week, Ramk is at the Delray Beach Qualifiers, seeded fifth and takes on the Wild Card Marcelo Aravelo (SAL, 220) in the first round.
If he is able to get past Aravelo, he then potentially meets the fourth seed Alex Bolt (AUS,126) in the next round for a place in the Main draw.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Disappointing outing for Ram as he loses to lower ranked opponent. 6-7 in the third set is painful. Next he'll be at Dubai qualies before going back to USA for Indian Wells qualies where Prajnesh too is in the list
