Re: "Asia Reborn"
Sin Hombre, what do you think can the West do?
There are two types of issues. In China, there is an autocratic regime. They will do whatever they do with a heavy hand. They have no shame. Hence, even if the Western media makes noise, nothing will happen.
In India, when there are issues, these are, often, unpublicized issues. Bringing them to the limelight will force the government to act. Because, our government is not blatantly autocratic and wants, at least in principle, to do the right thing. The government has some shame and some morality. That is why there are more media articles about problems in India in the Western media, although I am not sure if that is true.

Re: "Asia Reborn"
"Asia Reborn" has been short-listed (with 2 others) for the Tata Literature First Book award (non-fiction):
http://www.tatalitlive.in/exhibitors/fi ... d-fiction/
But I suspect the winner is pre-ordained -- Aruna Roy for the RTI Story. She is the only one invited to the Tata Literature Festival, and is being interviewed there by one of the judges! (I wrote to the organisers offering to participate -- once I heard my book had been nominated -- but they didn't respond...).

Re: "Asia Reborn"
I am surprised (and honoured) to learn that Asia Reborn has won the First Book award at the Tata Literature Live! Festival, which begins in Mumbai today. (The main reason for my surprise is that Rudrangshu Mukherjee, the historian on the jury panel, disagrees strongly with me on the meaning of 1857, and the Bose/Nehru relationship; but perhaps the other jurors really liked my book!). As far as I know, among the 8 main literary awards in India (including the Sahitya Akademi), this is the only one that has a category for non-fiction writing, so it is particularly gratifying to get this recognition. Of course, it would be even better if more people actually read the book!!
Re: "Asia Reborn"
PKBasu, Congratulations on a great achievement! Now I need to find it and read it. Hope it is on Amazon. Writing well is harder than hitting a baseball!

I think the book is actually available on Amazon globally now. I know that it is available in the UK, and now perhaps also in the US. Of course, it has been available on Amazon.in and Flipkart -- as well as selected bookstores throughout India -- for about a year now.

Saw this old interview of LKY with American media from 1967. Hadn't realized that he was this impressive, very clear-cut and straightforward answers.
