And Sushil win his bout within a minute to win the gold. There is no challenge for him really at commonwealth level.

Gold #14 for us.

I'm excited about the prospects of Hima Das, who is new to 400m. We are still to discover her true potential, but I think sub 51s is on the cards within this year which will be a national record. Hope Jisna Mathew, who is 1 year older & PT Usha's trainee, will give her good competition. Looking forward to competition between these youngsters.

First medal in athletics come thru. In the womens discus throw, Seema Punia gets a silver with a throw of 60.41 meters and Navjot Dhillon wins a bronze with a throw of 57.43 meters.

Seema's throw can be put as Asian medal potential as only Chinese have done better and only 2 Chinese can enter the competition at Asiad.

So, we are still in third place with 14 golds, 7 silver and 10 bronze medal- total of 31 medals. Canada is now getting close with 12 golds. Hope we can stave off their challenge in last 3 days.

In terms of comparison with 2014 games in Glasgow, we had won 64 medals last time with 15 golds. We need to remove 4 medals which came from Judo as it is not there this time. So, for similar performance we need to get 60.

It looks like we will certainly go well above 15 golds of last time and go upto around 25 at least. And also get better than 60.
As of now we are 31. 9 guaranteed from boxing, 6-7 should come from wrestling, 2-3 from athletics, 3-4 from shooting, 4-5 from badminton, 3-4 from table tennis, 1-2 from squash, 1-2 from hockey. 29 to 35 medals which should take us to around 60 to 65. Anything more will be bonus. Next 3 days are going to be exciting with lots of events.

Pretty strong performance by India thus far! Even those not winning medals, such as Mohammed Anas and Hima Das in athletics and Sajjan Prakash (?) in swimming have posted strong times in their events.

The wrestling events may decide the gold medal battle with Canada. Rahul Aware's win over a Canadian keeps our noses in front although Babita lost her final to a Canadian. I suspect several other finals in wresling will be India-Canada matchups and we'll need to win most of those....

Would be great if she does.

She only started running 2 years back after switching from football and is still very young and 3-4 years from her peak age.

Sub-51 would put her in Olympic contention.

Overall I would consider this CWG a success if we end up with 6 Olympic potential medalists.

Even if we include Manu+(Om or Jitu) as a potential medalist in the new mixed gender category, we are only at 3 at this point.

Very difficult to classify potential in sports such as badminton, wrestling and boxing because there can be no measurements.

In badminton, if Srikanth and/or Sindhu win we may not call that olympic medal potential performance as the opposition is weak but they are clearly olympic medal winning potential athletes.

In wrestling the competition is too weak to classify anything. Performance at Asiad will be much better indication.

Much better competition in boxing but still one cannot say if a gold medalist can be classified as olympic medal potential. But, some of the boxers ( Vikash Krishan, Marykom) may indeed be olympic medal potential.

Btw, all our 8 male boxers are having their SF's tomorrow. 2 against England, 2 against Northen Ireland, 1 each against Australia,Srilanka,Uganda and Seynegal.

I think our boxers should surely win the 3 against Uganda, Srilanka and Seynegal, Our most experienced boxer Vikas Krishan should also win against Norther Ireland boxer. Other 4 would be tough bouts. I would take even 1 win out of those 4. That will make a total of 6 boxers in the final ( including Marykom.)

So, we have another assured medal in TT men's doubles now as both our men's doubles pairs are into semis.

@sameer
In terms of Olympic potential,

Sindhu is clearly one at this point but women's shuttlers have 3-4 year peaks so hard to say if she will still be Olympic medal level in 2+ years from now.

Srikanth is yet to prove that he can win as the tournament stature goes up as does expectations from him. A gold here beating Ouseph and winner of LCW/Prannoy will definitely go some way in assuaging those fears (especially if he backs that up later in the year at the worlds and asian games).

Neeraj can show Olympic potential here with a gold or a silver with a 86+ throw.

Anjum can show Olympic potential in the 50m rifle 3 pos if she doesn't choke in the finals. Very clearly Olympic level from a qualifying perspective.

The men's hockey team can show that by winning a gold.

Some of the boxers can as well where they have fields with one or more top 10 level boxers.

My hope was to see 6 or so such performances not including the wrestlers or archers.

In the Men's Javelin Throw Q round, we have a couple of Indians qualified for the final round - Neeraj Chopra with a 80.42 and Vipin Kashana with a 78.88. Rio Olympic Silver Medalist Julius Yego didn't make the qualification and was quite upset with a red flag call in one of his attempts.
