75kg: Vikas Krishnan
91kg: Naman Tanwar

Again a lot of the athletes magically hit the qualifying marks right in the trials. Often they don't come close to their performance in the actual event since the competition isn't for vegetarians (i.e., no spinach :D ).

Neeraj Chopra (Javelin) and Tejaswin Shankar (HJ) appear to be close to world class.

How come Siddhanth Thingalaya is missing from the list? He is not in the news these days. Anyone has updates on what's going on with him?

He participated in world indoor championships last month, it seems but I think could not meet qualifying standards for CWG as he had very little time to prepare after world indoor championships. This is a recent article on him -

Clearing hurdles is nothing new to Siddhanth Thingalaya as he works towards his Olympic dream

This is our wrestling team for the CWG-

Mens freestyle -

57Kgs- Rahul Aware
65kg- Bajrang Punia
74kg- Sushil Kumar
86kg- Somveer
97kg- Mausam Khatri
125kg- Sumit

Womens -
50kg- Vinesh Phogat
54kg- Babita Kumari
57kg- Pooja Dhanda
62kg- Sakshi Malik
68 kg- Divya Karan
76kg- Karan

Last time we had a rich haul of 5 golds, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals. Of the 2014 medalists, we have Sushil, Bajrang, Vinesh,Babita,Sakshi still in the team.

Sorry to say this about a legend but Sushil Kumar seems to be picking and choosing events these days. He skipped the recently held Asian championships siting injury and now plays at easier CWG. Hope he at least wins the gold here.

There is sometimes some assistance from local officials. Hand-timed times are not accepted upto 800m. Notice we have one qualifier each from the sprint distances. So, I guess fudging those may be difficult but beyond that maybe some corners are being cut a bit. Similarly, measurements made on the field. There was a video being circulated in some of the racewalking FB groups I am on about Indian racewalkers blatantly running. I presume there were not as many judges positioned or they were off to get some chai/beedi while the race was going on. I do not know if the video is fake either. It may be a combination of relaxed officiating to help the local girl/boy and spinach.

Fudging may be a little difficult but Spinach certainly is more likely possibility with lax dope related controls (probably done purposely by the association to push more athletes into big games). Look at this article appearing today -

Seema Punia’s absence has officials in a tizzy ahead of 2018 Commonwealth Games

It is possible fudging does not happen. I have no concrete evidence. Only heard things. But people often spread rumors too. It is not too difficult to do while measuring a jump though. Etc.

Yes,some level of fudging may be happening particularly for field events. I do not really know what are are the controls established by IAAF for this purpose if any. There be some because else every country will fudge and try to show improved performances of their athletes at home.

But, even if it is happening, it may only be leading to marginal improvements, not the kind which our athletes have been posting in the events before the big games at home.

This is our badminton team for CWG-

MEN: Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Chirag Shetty, Satwik Sairaj, Pranaav Jerry Chopra

There will be a mixed team event along with 5 Individual events. Last time Kashyap won a gold in mens singles, Sindhu a bronze in womens singles and Jwala-Ashwini got a silver in womens doubles.

Malaysia will be quite strong in mens singles ( Lee Chong Wei) and mens doubles. England will be strong in doubles.

Any predictions on final medal count? Will we beat 2014 totals?

Last time we got 65 medals - 3 biggest hauls came from Shooting (17), Weightlifting (14), Wrestling (13). The competition is still weak in commonwealth for these sports. So, we can expect to equal that tally in these 3 sports- a few medals here and there.

I expect some upsurge in badminton (4 medals last time) and boxing ( 4 medals last time) and perhaps in Athletics (3 medals last time).

Overall my expectation is around 70 medals. Anything above that will be great, anything below 60 will be disappointing.
