After a fantastic 3 rounds, Shubhankar succumbed to the pressure of being the leader. He had a poor final round of 74, while Mickelson shot a 66 in the final round to win the title. Shubhankar still managed to finish T9, and now has some name recognition in the world of golf.

Missed a great opportunity to move to top 50 ranking with a top 3 finish. Didn’t expect him to win such a tough event but hoped for a top 3 finish.

Still a great tournament as T9 in a world class field and playing for the first time in PGA tour was nothing short of a miracle. Should give him few invites to PGA events because of this performance.

Moves to 66 in the world and that should get him to the WGC Match play in 2 weeks time where the top 64 play as some withdrawals will be there due to injuries etc.

Good luck for Indian open this week.

Yes, missed opportunity for Shubhankar in the last round where he played too conservatively in the beginning and then perhaps took some extra risk later.

However, a top 10 finish in a WGC event in his first PGA event is a fantastic finish overall. His leading the field in rounds 2 and 3 has given him a lot of name recognition and likely a lot of confidence that he belongs among the best and that will raise his profile and give him some more opportunities (such as sponsor invites etc.). If he get's some PGA event sponsor invites and makes some more WGC fields (and he is already in the British Open field), it's not beyond him to earn a PGA tour card based on his performances in such events.

He seems to have the complete game - straight of the tee and hits good iron shots. His scrambling and putting is solid as well. Perhaps, he is a little short of the tee (especially for some of the longer wide open PGA courses), so he'll have to learn to hit his driver consistently- he was able to get away with hitting irons of the tee in many of holes of this event as the altitude made this course play much shorter than its posted length.

Shubhankar Sharma has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2018 Masters.

This will be Sharma’s first major championship. He will also be the fourth Indian golfer to play in the Masters, following Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal and Anirban Lahiri, when he tees it up in the April 5-8 tournament.

Wow, that is pretty cool. While there is a small possibility that he may have gotten the invite just based on leading the European tour, I think his strong performance at the WGC Mexico (and publicity he received) likely sealed the deal...

Congratulations to Shubhankar for his second straight appearance in the second Major of the year.
Will be the sole Indian once again after the Masters.
He has already qualified for the 3rd Major - The Open.
Hope he plays well in one of these to secure a Special Temporary Membership on the PGA Tour.

Shubhankar Sharma makes a steady start in US Open, he scored a 4 over par round and is tied for 37th position.

The opening day has been one of the toughest this season. Average score was 6 over par and only 4 players made a under par score who apparently are the tournament leaders.

Disastrous end to round 2 with a bogey and a double bogey to miss out on the cut by 2.

Our golfers continue to have a poor year.
