North American ATP tournaments Feb-March 2018
Opening a thread for these series of tournaments starting with ATP 250 in Long Island, New York starting today followed by Delray beach ATP 250 next week then ATP 500 at Acapulco and then Indian Wells/Miami ATP 1000.
Expect some Indian presence here in doubles and RamK has put in the qualifying entry list of NY/Delray beach and Acapulco. Hope Yuki comes in for Indian Wells/Miami qualies.

Ramk should go for single handed backhand. He will be able to open up his shoulder and play his shots more freely. He will not succeed at atp events with his miserable double handed backhand.

It is better than 26 36 thrashing that RamK got from Escobedo last year but still a loss. RamK just could not create any opportunities on Escobedo serve, he had 2 breakpoints which were in first service game of the match, nothing thereafter. in the meantime, he got broken once in each set. His return game still needs improvement.

Both Yuki and RamK are in the entry list of Indian Wells ATP 1000 starting March 6. Very strong entry list though. But, good to see Yuki too going for higher level tournaments.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
At the Delray Beach qualies Ram faces a much easier opponent than last week ,in 153 ranked Stefan Kozlov , Brain Fratangelo is the other guy in his draw. Both of the beatable and hopefully Ram should make the MD this time around

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
What a win by Ram.. you beauty. I could only watch like 5-8 points thanks to bad connection in train but his service returns are no longer tapping it back in. He was aggressive on the second serve returns. His backhand during the rallies, I don't remember seeing an unforced slice (i.e., ball being low) - and he was in a strong position in most of those exchanges.
Ram got a bit lucky in those few points I saw as the opponent was very patchy and couldn't string more than 3-4 good shots in a rally. Makes it a good night - looking forward to the match tomorrow.
Ram won 6-3 6-2

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Also given that Kozlov had scored an easy victory over Ram last May (6-1 6-2), the progress by Ram is even more sweet. Great on him to have taken the month or two off to train with his coach.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Up against a player who last year had wins over Heyong Chung and Tennys Sandgreen was going to be tricky because you are not only playing him but his entourage consisting of his parents, family, friends who will always look to unsettle the opponent with their unsporting cheering and influencing line calls and thats what precisly happened when Ram at 2 all in the first set, someone from his entourage called it out ,influencing the linesman and play was held up for 10 minutes when Ram called for tournament refree, but to no avail
Luckily Ram didn't allow that incident to affect him and immediately broke back playing superb attacking tennis, aided by a liberal dose of DF's from the Russian
Whatever transpired during the game or his oppononents reputation, as I said before the match Ram would win, and win he did, in an emphatic fashion

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Nice win by RamK! Hopefully, he can follow it up in his next round.
BTW, his opponent Kozlov is an American of Macedonian descent...
