Re: Australian Open 2018
Bopanna/Babos won the first set 7-5 in the MxD semifinal. 1-1 in the second set.
If they win, they will play Pavic/Dabrowski in the final.

Re: Australian Open 2018
Surprised they lost a set to Sanchez/Demoliner. Saw the latter in their QF and they didn't look anything special. Anyway, now for the big one. Get the title.

Re: Australian Open 2018
Rohan made few unforced errors in the second set, which turned the tide against them as opponents broke Timea's serve in the 7th game ... In the match tie-break, both pairs lifted their game as after 2-5 down Rohan-Timea fought back to 7-6 ... Rohan-Timea had a championship points at 9-8, but Pavic served big two aces to give his team a championship point ... Dabrowski hit a superb backhand cross-court service winner on Timea's serve to win the Championship.

Re: Australian Open 2018
Gabriela Dabrowski was Rohan's partner when he won his first and only one mixed doubles title.

Re: Australian Open 2018
And apparently he didn't even talk to Dabrowski before switching to Babos for the AO! So it must have been sweet for Dabrowski to beat Bopanna ... in the final ... in a STB ... so narrowly!Saniapower wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 11:10 am Gabriela Dabrowski was Rohan's partner when he won his first and only one mixed doubles title.

Re: Australian Open 2018
24 year old Mate Pavic won a rare double crown when he won both mens doubles and mixed doubles title at the AO. I wonder if Leander or Mahesh have done this anytime at the same slam.
Pavic is one of the rare players who has turned a doubles specialist at a very young age. He is only 24 and is in fact the only under 25 players in top 50 of the AP doubles rankings. I remember watching him live being beaten by Jeevan in a futures final in Mumbai 5 years back. He did looks quite talented even then. He reached a career high ranking of 291 in singles. But, it looks like he quickly realised that his singles ranking will take him only to about top 200 or so and moved to doubles where he has gone up to #5 now and earning a lot more than he would have had he stuck to playing challengers in singles. Not many can make this decision but it looks like it has paid dividends for Pavic.

Leander, of course, won both Men's and Mixed Doubles at Wimbledon in 1999. But yes it is quite a rare achievement.
