US Challengers, 2018

Post by sameerph »

There are 3 big challengers in next 3 weeks in US, $150K(+H) in Newport this week, $125K in Dallas next week and $100K in n Francisvo the week after.

Jeevan and Leander are playing this week with their respective partners. It is likely that they will play here for all 3 weeks. I guess Purav may join and RamK is the entry list for third week in San Francisvo. So, opening a thread for this.

Leander’s motivation level is just utterly admirable. To be playing Challengers at 44+, immediately after a mild
disappointment at a Slam (following a big upset win) really requires heart and commitment.

True, to motivate oneself playing in challengers is really hard for someone who has won multiple slams. Most of the top players retire just because they do not have motivation to come back and play at challengers in an effort to get their ranking up. All credit to Leander to be able to do this.

Darn it..I am going to be away on business all week - so I will miss the Dallas Challenger once again! :damn:

However I don't see any of our guys on the main draw list or alternates - so I wont be missing anything it looks like. Karunuday is at 64 out on the alternates - not likely to happen for him.

Leander at this age still plays very good doubles. Australian open 2018 is a good example of his class. He also plays his role in helping other Indian players to rise on the atp tour. Earlier in his career he helped Mahesh Bhupathi and now he is helping Purav Raja, very good attitude from an excellent human being.
