Cruel draw for Ankita and Rutuja again. I think Ankita will prevail this time. Other than Karman,no expectations from anyone else.

What happened here? Did the matches get delayed or something due to rain etc?

Sanjay, you could check on ITF site and post results.sanjay5goel wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2017 11:07 amWhat happened here? Did the matches get delayed or something due to rain etc?
As expected, only two Indians scored a win in the first round ... This week, Ankita scored a win over Rutuja and also, the straight sets win for Karman against British qualifier ... Ankita will be faced Russian qualifier and Karman having a tough match against top-200 Chinese girl Lu, who scored a dominated win over Pranjala losing only two games.
At $25K ITF Women's Tennis Tournament 2017, Navi Mumbai, India

Re: End of the year Women's ITF tournaments - Indore/Solapur/Pune/Navi Mumbai
Such terrible score lines in the losses by Pranjala, Dhruti and Akanksha...
Re: End of the year Women's ITF tournaments - Indore/Solapur/Pune/Navi Mumbai
I'm very concerned about the one sided losses that Pranjala and Dhruthi have been suffering. Perhaps it's a sign of stagnation or the lack of critical coaching. They are both very talented and I'd hate to see them fall woefully short of their potential.
As for Ms Nitture, she shouldn't have been in the draw to begin with. She's picked up two free points in the past two events and is now just one point away from a wta ranking while there are better players struggling for such opportunities.

Yes, particularly for Pranjala the losses have been really bad in last 3 weeks. She needs some good coaching at this stage like Karman got to move up a level next year.
I saw Jia Jing-Lu play at Mumbai WTA a few weeks back and she almost beat a top 75 player Sabalenka. Unfortunately both Karman and Ankita are in her quarter. It will be very hard for either of them to beat her.

I had never understood what logic ATP and WTA have had for giving points to people who play in main draws with just wildcards. This has been a long-time tradition. If they are a wildcard, no point should be given unless they win a round. Pathetic.

Yes, the Indians haven't been able to take advantage of the recent home series. Karman has been the only one winning some matches but that is also per her ranking - no home condition advantaged performances yet.

She had matchpoint against Sabalenka a month ago, but just last week she lost in straight sets to Fatma Al Nabhani, a lucky loser. Both Ankita and Karman are better than Fatma and should believe they stand a chance.

Riya/Dhruthi, Pranjala and Mihika are in the doubles QF. Pranjala and partner beat Akanksha Nitture and Saumya Vig 61 60, suggesting that Akanksha has some serious "connections" to have been handed both a singles and doubles wildcard.

Karman's singles R2 match against 3rd seed Jia Jing Lu will be starting shortly on Court 2. Ankita plays Ekaterina Yashina (RUS, 546) three hours later on the same court.
The winners of those two matches play each other in the QF, so we have a good chance of a QF featuring the India #1 and #2.

Daniel was spot on ...
Karman crushed top-200 Lu for a dominating win.

Excellent scalp for Karman!! Congratulations to her.
All we need for the all-India QF is for Ankita to beat her Russian opponent now...PKBasu wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2017 8:50 am Karman's singles R2 match against 3rd seed Jia Jing Lu will be starting shortly on Court 2. Ankita plays Ekaterina Yashina (RUS, 546) three hours later on the same court.
