Arjun breaks Harris at 15 to take the first set 7-5. Good that he did not let the early advantage in that set go to waste.

Stream for the match - http://videostream.dn.ua/videopage/vide ... cation=ufi

On serve at 3-2 in the second now. Two double faults, a return winner etc... Break for AK after 2 BPs were saved with good serves. Harris throws his racket after DFing at Ad out. 7-5 4-2 and serving... Strong service and nice follow ups from AK. AH then serves two good ones after being down 15-30. AK serving for the match at 75 53.. Three strong serves for 40-0 triple match pt. After a double fault and a nice point by Harris, Arjun finished it in a 9 shot rally with a back hand down the line. YES! 75 63 title!!

In the second set he was a break down at 1-2 but broke back immediately and then kept playing well. Good serves, good groundstrokes on both flanks. As I said earlier, Harris was a higher ranked player in US college tennis and has earned his top 500 ranking in just 4-5 months of play. So, it is a very good win for Arjun.

Good to see success stories emerging from both tracks - US college (Som, Saketh & co) and moving to an European academy at 16-17 (Ram, Sumit). It gives kids options to follow to further their game.

Excellent title win for Arjun Kadhe!! That he beat the top seed, who recently won a $25K Futures title in Australia, and has been making noise on the Challenger tour too, is particularly creditable. Andrew Harris, his opponent in the final, also won the French Open and Wimbledon junior doubles titles (partnering Nick Kyrgios, who he says he never lost to as a junior...) makes this win all the more memorable.

I think for but those who are top talents at a young age like Yuki, Sumit, RamK other Indians would be well advised to take US college route. I think the likes of Prajnesh, Vishnu, Balaji,VSP etc, would have been better players if they had spent 3-4 years in US college system.

Totally agree. Don't delay it either. If you are in the junior top-20 or so in the world, or has been noted for your talent by somebody whom you can trust for a minimum 2-3 years of sponsorship for coaching in Europe, then take that up. Otherwise, do the legwork of contacting US college coaches and taking the SAT exam etc by late in the year when you turn 17, and go to US college without delay in the year that you turn 18. Get out at 21 or 22. In fact I think Arjun was a little late in doing it, and he is turning 24 pretty soon.

True, sort of like Rishab Agarwal. He was only top 100 level in ITF juniors. Went early to US college, had a decent college tennis career for 3 years and came back to pros before he was 21 last year.
Had a good start to pros with a futures final and into top 700. Looks like he is injured this year but he still has time to do something in pros.

Even Saketh delayed it a lot, he started playing pros at 24.

Arjun Khade goes down in 3 close sets , with all the 3 sets going to TB , on paper losing to a seeded and much higher ranked opponent is a fair result , but was hoping for better outcome

Prajnesh , facing a 1400 ranked WC just manages to scrape home in 3 sets to reach R2

Sasi Kumar also needed 3 sets to overcome the Japanese qualifier to reach the second round.

Arjun had couple of match points in second set tie break. Sad that eventually lost out in a 3 hour 18 mins match. But, again he showed that he is playing at top 400 level at least.

Prajnesh took some time to settle down it seems. He will need at least a couple more wins this week to get comfortable in making the qualifying draw at AO.

Detailed results -

[R1] N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND,588) d. Aryan Goveas (IND,694) 26 76(5) 64
[R1] (7) Sasi Kumar Mukund (IND,429) d. (Q) Rio Niguchi (JPN,1065) 64 46 61
[R1] Arjun Kadhe (IND,758) l. (5) Sora Fukuda (JPN,380) 76(4) 67(6) 67(3)
[R1] (2) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,252) d. (WC) David Agung Susanto (INA,1412) 36 63 62
[R1] (Q) Manish Sureshkumar (IND,1188) d. Jui-Chen Hung (TPE,870) 63 75

Next,

[R2] Sidharth Rawat (IND,524) vs (1) Duckhee Lee (KOR,216)
[R2] N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND,588) vs. (3) Ti Chen (TPE,320)
[R2] (7) Sasi Kumar Mukund (IND,429) vs. Cheng-Yu Yu (TPE,657)
[R2] (2) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,256) vs. (Q) Manish Sureshkumar (IND,1188)
