Australian Open 2018
May be off topic here, but not sure how I can create a new thread. Sumit has entered into the Asia Pacific Wildcard qualifying to be held between November 29 and 3 December in China (Zhuhai). He's currently in the qualifying acceptance list with Balaji

Australian Open 2018
I think we discussed that in the AO thread. If someone can create one for 2018.

Re: Australian Open 2018
Thanks, Jaydeep. Women's list is tough. Ankita ranked inside 300 could only get in the ALTs to Q-list, whereas both Sumit and Balaji ranked outside 300 are already in Q-list. Would have been a great chance for Karman had her ranking was higher.

Re: Australian Open 2018
List will drop off a bit in next 2 weeks. Surprised that Yuki and RamK are not going there. They would have been the top 2 seeds with a decent chance of winning this one.

Re: Australian Open 2018
As per latest updated acceptance list for next week's Asia Pacific wild card play off next in China , Sumit has now received a main draw wild . The Korean Soon Woo Kwon will be the top seed and then there will be a clutch of Chinese players - their top 3 and their young star- Yibing Wu and the Taiwanese Yang.
In mens doubles, Balaji and Vishnu should be there and Jeevan posted that he will be playing along side Rungkat.
In womens singles, Ankita is in the qualifying entry list.

Re: Australian Open 2018
Just to sum up here, the chances of our players making the qualies for Australian open this year.
The cut off last year was 247 and a year before was 262.
Yuki and RamK are most certainly in. Yuki will be a high seed and perhaps, RamK may be a low seed too, need to check. If Sumit wins the Bangaluru challenger final tomorrow, he will certainly make it. If not, he will still have a chance to make it in by winning the Qatar futures starting December 4.
Prajnesh is quite close to it with a live ranking of 255. He is in the entry list of Indonesia futures next week. A SF or better for him there should make it sure for him.
Saki has an IPR of 267 I think. He will need a huge bit of luck to make it in with that ranking.
Hope to see 4 Indians in the qualifying draw this time.

Re: Australian Open 2018
But the Qatar Futures points will be added only two weeks later right? Will it be counted for AO Q entry list?

Re: Australian Open 2018
AO qualies start in the week of January 8. So, the entry list will come out 3 weeks earlier i.e 18th December. Points for futures starting on Dec. 4 ( including Qatar F4 futures) will get updated a week late i.e on December 18, the same date. So, points earned that week will count for AO qualies.
Re: Australian Open 2018
So now with the Bangalore challenger completed we have Yuki, RamK and Sumit in for sure at the AO Qualies. This is sounding better and better.

Re: Australian Open 2018
In the latest updated list, surprisingly 2 Chinese players - Wu Di and young Yibing Wu pulled out. So, Sumit directly made the main draw and his wild card was given away to someone else. If they go by the rankings this week, Sumit will in fact be third seed in the main draw behind the Korean Soon Woo Kwon and the Chinese Ze Zhang.sameerph wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2017 7:39 am As per latest updated acceptance list for next week's Asia Pacific wild card play off next in China , Sumit has now received a main draw wild . Vishnu and Balaji will be in qualifying. It looks like Ankita has withdrawn from the Womens singles.

Re: Australian Open 2018
And who know Sumit may well leave the main cast behind and jump the post in front of Yuki and Ram and cement his place in the main draw considering the stellar form he is in and in the past two weeks took care of much fancied opponents than those he will face at the play off.
I am still perplexed why Yuki and Ram choose to ignore this relatively easier route where the chances are much brighter rather than the arduous gruelling qualies. Even there is decent prize money so expenses is also not an excuse, Few years back Yuki almost made the main draw losing a close match to Di Wu the eventual champion in the semis but had the consolation of winning the doubles with Michael Venus to earn the Doubles MD WC.
So weak and erratic the playing field is, that the year after Yuki played , Purav Raja who had not played a competitive singles match for many a years almost qualified and reached the semis .

Re: Australian Open 2018
Yes, after someone posted the info on this wild card play off, the first post I put was Yuki and RamK would be the top 2 seeds and favourites to win this event. On the hindsight, Yuki after playing 9 matches in last 2 weeks would not have been able to play this at full fitness. But, RamK lost early last week and usually plays a lot of consecutive weeks. So, it would not have been an issue with him.
