Nandini has evened it up against Lucia Quiterio (POR,1162) at 67(4) 76(4) 00.
A certified barn-burner going on out there in Portugal. Nandini was up a break early in the second set yesterday, and kept the advantage till she served at 5-4 for the set, and got broken. Lucia then served at 6-5 and had a match point. Nandini saved the match point and won 6 points in a row there to break back and go up 3-0 in the TB. From 4-1 in the TB, Lucia won 4 points and was 5-4 up and one Nandini-mistke away from winning it, again. Then our girl won the last 3 points to even it all up. The match has gone on for 2 hrs 22 minutes over two days for just two sets!

She wins the marathon 7-5 in the third set! Wow - it was 3 h 18m long. Hope somehow she has the energy for another match tomorrow. For now, time to celebrate the win

Looks like that was a match between the players from the same academy.. so both of them must know each other's game pretty well. it becomes a game of mental fortitude in such situations and glad Nandini came on top.

Excellent! She gains 6 ranking points for her valiant efforts. She will be in the ranking charts next week with a total of 8 points so far.
Her next opponent is tough thou - Magdalena Frech thrashed Anastasia Pivovarova (former top-100 player) with a double bagel in R1.

I think 10 points are needed for getting into rankings. So, she may have to wait for it for 1 more tournament.
Still, an excellent fighting win by her.

She has played in the main draw in 3 tournaments. Does that not count?
EDIT: I just checked the WTA rankings chart and I see a bunch of players with 3 points from 3 tournaments at the end ranked around 1200s. Nandini should make it

She has to earn points from 3 tournaments. Her first main draw appearance was at Madrid 15K tournament where she qualified thru . There are no points awarded for qualifiers or first round results at a 15K tournament. So, her points are 6 from this week and 2 from 15K QF 2 weeks back, a total of 8. Not enough to get into rankings yet.

That was some match today! She is such a fighter. Unfortunately, now she has yet another formidable foe to fight. Sameer. He keeps coming up with ways to prevent her from getting a ranking. And he even says, "win the tournament, and you can get a ranking". The kind of demands never placed on a player trying hard to just get a ranking. Heartless, I must say.

Also just curious, the match is supposedly 3hr 18 m long. This is pretty close to the longest women's matches list maintained on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longest_t ... ch_records. I am guessing this may well be the longest Indian Women's match on the ITF/WTA tour though we will likely have no way to verify this.
Appears like this match was on her birthday as per her academy page: https://www.facebook.com/FelnerAcademy/. Nandini is active on that page, incase anyone wants to wish her
Her next round opponent is a 19-yr top200 players with two $25k titles this year already. Hope Nandini has enough fuel left in the tank to give it a fight.

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...
We knew that she wouldn't have much left for another match after the last one... So,
[R2] (Q) Nandini Sharma (IND, NR) l. (4) Magdalena Frech (POL,189), 06 26

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...
Just found out that Nandini has a national ranking(32) in Portugal which means she might have a dual citizenship. This explains why she trains and plays in Portugal more often.
If you check the following link, search for Nandini Sharma and in the Withdrawal list, you can find she is ranked #32 nationally in Portugal.

The last time I checked India does not allow dual citizenship - anyone please correct me if I am wrong. Plus the above link doesnt work.bujilover wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2017 3:45 pm Just found out that Nandini has a national ranking(32) in Portugal which means she might have a dual citizenship.
