Re: Davis Cup 2017 - India
The Canadian team's plan is simple with Schnur selection for the singles, if require then Vasek Pospisil can replace Schnur for the fifth rubber.
I think with 'vociferous' Florian and Jai we can expect at least 1-1 after end of the day one.
The schedule in details -
At Davis Cup 2017 - World Group Play-off, Edmonton, Canada
Day One
[R1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,154) vs Brayden Schnur (CAN,202)
[R2] Yuki BHambri (IND,157) vs Denis Shapovalov (CAN,51)
Day Two
[R3] Rohan Bopanna (IND)/ Purav Raja (IND) vs Daniel Nestor (CAN)/ Vasek Pospisil (CAN)
Day Three
[R4] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,154) vs Denis Shapovalov (CAN,51)
[R5] Yuki BHambri (IND,157) vs Brayden Schnur (CAN,202)

Still do not understand why they chose Schnur ahead of higher ranked Auger-Aliassime or Polansky. Both are playing challengers elsewhere.
Anyway, good for us. But, now first match becomes a must win for RamK against Schnur.

Re: Davis Cup 2017 - India
We are not getting anything from Shapovalov so the question is can we get 3 points from the other matches. Tall ask but not impossible.
<edit> Actually, come to think of it, if it goes down to the last rubber then you know it's going to be Pospisil. There is no way they will rely on Schnur if he loses on day 1.

Re: Davis Cup 2017 - India
The schedule is perfect: RamK will thrash Schnur in the first match, and that should inspire Yuki to gain his revenge on Shapovalov; they played a close match in the Challenger, so Yuki needs to start strong in the rematch and try taking the first two sets. If he drops one of them, it will become tougher, but Shapovalov will be shaken up, at a minimum.
The doubles point will be tough: I would have preferred Leander-Purav, since they've played well together -- but MB will move heaven and hell to keep LP away from his Davis Cup record.
Yuki should win the return singles. I like RamK's chances against Shapovalov in the deciding rubber.

PKB is optimistic. In other news, the sun rose in the east.
I think we win the first match then lose the next 3. I hope I am wrong.

This may sound weird but I think it is going to be 2-0 for India.
Predictions
Ramkumar winning 3-2
Yuki winning 3-1

Yuki winning 3-1

Re: Davis Cup 2017 - India
Ramk winning is our best hope on day 1. Schnur is a former US collegian without great success (as in winning or making finals of NCAA singles) and was mostly playing futures level tournaments until May of this year. So, he is new even to challenger level play. However, he has some decent results in the last couple of months and the Canadian team must see something to pick him over Pospisil or the much more heralded Auger-Aliassame (a 17 year old who has won 2 challengers in the last couple of months and is #168 now). Schnur has no challenger titles yet (and neither does Ramk).

Re: Davis Cup 2017 - India
RamK saves two break points riding strong first serves, on serve 4-3.
Courts look slower and bouncier than normal outdoor hard courts. RamK looks a tad bit uncomfortable timing his shots.
Out call overruled by a challenge now for RamK and on serve 5-4.
The Canadian is serving strong.. let's see how long can he keep it up. 5-5.
Schnur to serve for the set.

Guys, is it me, or do these indoor tournaments always seem weird when watching on TV? Every time the court is extremely zoomed in. I never notice this during regular Grandslam season or other tournaments.
