Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit come thru with a tough 3 set win.
At $15K Germany F10 Futures 2017, Wetzlar
[R2] (2) Sumit Nagal (IND,268) d. (Q) Christian Hirschmueller (GER,695) 63 57 75
A 3 hour 2 mins match. Sometimes, it is surprising that he has to fight so hard to beat these much lower ranked players. But, I am glad that most of the time finally he manages to win.
Next,
[QF] (2) Sumit Nagal (IND,268) vs. Maciej RAJSKI (POL,686)

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
These are probably some of the toughest places to play 15K tournaments, so good to see him win.
However, it will be great if he could move up to the challenger level as his game has flaws which will get exploited at the higher levels but not sure playing the futures will help him fix those flaws. Ideally, going forward, he should now focus on challengers with some futures mixed in rather than the other way around.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Last year we were complaining when he played challengers qualifying week after week saying he needed to play futures and this year we r complaining vice-versa ...
I think as Sameer mentioned previously that mostly he is combining these futures with his training stint at Schüttler-Waske Academy.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit wants to play mostly on clay best surface for him.
One good thing about him, unlike most other Indian players he doesn't play doubles at each & every event. That's the sign of a good confident player.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit has withdrawn from this challenger next week. I really did not expect him to fly down to Carribean just for a week. I don't know why he entered for this ? Now, he will not be able to play anywhere else too in next week.
His QF in German futures is today evening.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit texted me saying that the match was shifted to indoor carpet and he hasn't played on that surface for 3 years. That explains this unusual loss.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Thanks, Vatsal. But, he should start playing more on hard courts and not specialise only on clay.
He is in the entry list of $25K futures in Poland the week after that (August 21).
Not sure after that. There are a lot more challengers in September. So, he must play in some of them.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Yeah he'll be in Poland for a week. Carpet and hard are entirely different. Sumit is quite good on hard as well!

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Absolutely. It is a totally different animal than hard courts. Players from colder countries have at least some experience on it. I won't blame Sumit if he was taken out of his game by the surface.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit is in the preliminary entry list of $15K ITF Futures in Chennai for the week of Aug 4. Is he planning to vulture this low level Indian ITF? There is 3 of them lined up for the month of August (Chennai x2 / Coimbatore).

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit has quite a few points to defend in the coming weeks so I don't mind him playing some lower level futures; all good as long as he is playing.
