Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
We beat Chile 1-0. I guess that means we are almost thru to the QF. Of course, post that it will be tough.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
Yes, with this win we have entered into the quarter-finals.
Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
Yes, into QF, where we will probably meet Germany (assuming we finish 4th) or hopefully, Japan or Ireland if we get 3rd. All depends on goal difference in our group as I suspect South Africa will finish level with us on points, but our 4-1 loss to USA may hurt us.
Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
We will finish 3rd in the pool, following Chile's surprise win over South Africa & seeing that our final pool game is against Argentina.
I'm hoping Ireland or Japan finish 2nd in the other pool, as we always lose to England or Germany.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
We ended up 4th in the pool and will play England in the QF today. Not much hope of winning this one as England are typical of the type of team that overwhelms us. Fast, physical and well organised.
On the positie side, we have kept the losses down to 3 goal margins.....so far!

We lost the QF to England 1-4 but kept to within the 3 goal margin.ssp wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2017 5:55 am We ended up 4th in the pool and will play England in the QF today. Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
I knew we wouldn't have a chance against England or Germany 3 goal margins of defeat are better than usual.
We just can't get beyond our current level and the future looks bleak as our players are just too weak and slow.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
The Indian women's hockey team finish eighth in Women's HWL Semi-Final ... Despite maintaining an upper hand throughout the match, India let the opponents score two goals in the final quarter.
For 7th Position
India l Ireland 1-2 (1-0)

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
The team for HWL Final announced ... Rupinder Pal Singh and Birendra Lakra made comebacks for the tournament, but experienced mid-fielder Sardar Singh was dropped from India's 18-member squad ... Some good mixture of youth and experience in the team.
Goalkeepers - Akash Anil Chikte, Suraj Karkera
Defenders - Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Dipsan Tirkey, Varun Kumar, Rupinderpal Singh, Birendra Lakra
Midfielders - Manpreet Singh (Capt), Chinglensana Singh (Vice-Capt), SK Uthappa, Sumit, Kothajit Singh
Forwards - SV Sunil, Akashdeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Gurjant Singh.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
Slightly surprised to see Sardar being dropped, but I felt the experiment of playing him at the back at the recent Asia Cup didn't really work out. After the Asia cup, I suggested moving Sardar into Uthappa's position (& dropping the latter of course!!) and Rupinder Pal to return as the sweeper and main PC option.
We have 2 really weak players- Uthappa and Mandeep. Don't know how these 2 keep getting chance after chance. The other frustrating player is Akashdeep. He has improved over the past year because he is capable of scoring spectacular goals (usually against the lesser teams) but keeps making basic trapping and passing errors. Ramandeep also messes up a fair few times, but I'd have him any day over Mandeep, who is great at getting cards, losing the ball. getting penalised for shielding the ball and just running around aimlessly. Affan Youssef is miles better but never gets a decent run to cement his place. At the JWC, I felt Mandeep was our worst forward, yet here he is the squad again

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
India vs. Australia begins. 0-0 after Q1.
Goal from Mandeep to put us 1-0 ahead after 20 mins. Good reverse hit from a very good pass.
Australia equalise almost immediately off a PC. 1-1 after 24 mins.

No live stream for the match (at least in the U.S.), I guess...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)
1-1 at half time. Australia started slowly but came back strongly after going a goal down.
Possession 51 % to 49 % for Australia, circle penetration 8 to 7 but shots at goal 6 for us against 4 for them. So, almost even battle so far.
