Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Such a heartbreak for Ramanathan Ramkumar. After being down 1-6 in the tiebreaker, he levelled the score 6-6 and then lost 8-6. I really like his attitude, he is not afraid to try different things when the going gets tough. He almost did it.
Ramkumar lost 7-6, 3-6, 6-7

was not to be
valiant gladiatorial effort , to save 5 match points , only to blink at crucial single point to give the match away

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
In the end it was the experience of Bhagdatis which mattered and carried him through , had it been some other lower ranked player , Ram would have surely seen him through
But the positives from the tournament is first of all he played flawless tennis throughout the whole tournament , Serving , Rallying , Volleying and showed great fighting spirit with the back against the wall , 0-30 down on serve and like today saving 5 match points to almost etch out a another famous win.
And let there be no doubt that he is the legitimate singles player along with Yuki for the Canada tie and he has more than proved himself not only in this tournament but since the past 2 months starting from the Challenger Final he made and during that time and now has beaten over half a dozen quality higher ranked players including a gent who goes by the name of Dominic Thiem
A well earned rest beckons him and it is back to business at Newport to begin his North American sojourn culminating with US Open where he is in safely for the qaulies and the DC.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Yes, Ramkumar has truly arrived as a tennis pro in the past couple of months, making an important breakthrough that had eluded him for the past couple of years. But he is still only 22 (and a half), much younger than Thiem, so I think he will soon be a top 100 player with a bright future.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
It seems he does not want to rest, Rajeev. He has made the cut for $50K+H Recanati challenger next week. Let us see if he stays in the entry list and plays there. But, in any case he is also in the entry list of Winnetaka challenger in the first week of US summer season which is a week before Newport.
He has already played 10 straight weeks since last DC tie and looks like wants to keep going.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
I hope he is able to look into why his serve broke down - was it mechanical or mental.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Relentless play, week after week, is exposing RamK a bit too much to injury. He is clearly very fit (despite being a bit too skinny), but 11 consecutive weeks of tennis on three continents is a bit much. Take it a bit easy, man!

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
There are no breaks on RamK's calendar with Winnetka and Newport qualies (assuming he can get in) for the next two weeks.
At least, Recanti is a rare Italian challenger on outdoor hard so won't be changing surfaces too much.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
RamK is at a career high ranking of 184 now. No points to defend in next 2 weeks but after that he has 57 points to defend over next 3 weeks till end July.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Singles is 2nd match on the Grandstand court - not before 12.30pm local time
Doubles is on same court not before 2.30pm
Organisers not being very fair. Could have given RamK a bit of a longer rest as there is a doubles match scheduled after their match where none of the players are playing singles on Tuesday.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
4-6, 6-2, 1-0 at the moment
1-1 Hold to love by AK
2-1 Hold to love by RamK
3-1 break by RK to 30. Poor game by AK. UFEs galore.
4-1 Hold to 15 by RK. Good serving. Lovely body serve at 30-15 which made AK gesture to his sideline with a what do I do with that gesture.
4-2 Hold to 30. Good hustle by RK but not enough.
5-2 Hold to 15. Good hold by RK. Court seems slow so a couple of long rallies but on both instances RK winning them.
5-3 Hold to love. RK deciding to not put any effort into that game. All on the next game
6-3 Hold to 15. Great game. Good serving and fantastic FH cross court winner at 30-15 which left AK grasping at thin air.
