Viji (India's first woman IM) is in the team!

By the way, who was India's first woman GM, Humpy?

We lost 1.5-2.5 in the men against Poland. Vidit with a great opening to beat his higher rated opponent with white, but Adhiban coming undone in a close one against the young Dudek. I would play Sasi above Karthikeyan who is clearly our weakest player here.

And drew 2-2 with Georgia amongst the ladies. We should have won the tie but Viji blundered on board 4 from a winning position to lose.

And a great come-back for Pari pushing his opponent almost to the edge on the bottom board, but could only garner a draw....

Murali Karthikeyan blundered away an equal game...

Men lost 1.5-2.5 again, this time to China.

Again creditable performance by Vidit who had a long even fight with black against Chinese #1 Ling Diren who is 90 elo points ahead; Sasi showed why it was a blunder to leave him out in the first round with a draw with black against Chinese prodigy Wei Yi who is 70 elo points and a game where he had the better chances.

Adhiban again was the let down with a loss with white.

With a second straight loss, chances of a medal on the men's side have gone.

On the women side, we won 2.5-1.5 against the US with Tania providing the solitary result on board #3.

Men beat Belarus 2.5-1.5; however the women lost 1.5-2.5 to Ukraine in a big blow to medal prospects.

Great day for the Indian teams with wins for both teams in Round 4....

India almost blanked out US 3.5-0.5 with early wins for Adhiban (commanding) and Sasi (Robson couldn't handle the pressure)
and late end game win for Pari...
Vidit was in command all through in his top board game, but settled for a draw in the end...... A win would have nudged Vidit past the 2700 for the first time in his career...

Now in T5 behind China, Russia, Poland and this year's surprise package Turkey...

In the women's section, Padmini provided the much needed full point to get a narrow 2.5-1.5 win against Poland...

Indian women are now lone 3rd, two points behind the joint leaders Russia and Ukraine...

Up against Egypt in both sections of Rd 5 tomorrow.... Should try and make the most of it before the rest day.... :goodluck:

Excellent result by the men.

Tomorrow is a must-win in both sections against the bottom ranked Egypt. Anything less than a 3-1 would be a disappointment

Indian women win 3-1, with a disastrous loss for Harika on the top board, while the rest bringing full points home....

Indian men are still battling it out, currently leading 1.5-0.5. Both white games ending already, Adhiban won and Pari drew...
Murali was in a bit of trouble, but his game now seems equal... same with Vidit's game...

Update: Vidit and Murali drew their games to get a 2.5-1.5, slightly disappointing...

Poor day today with the men drawing with Turkey (Sasi with the win but Adhiban continuing his yoyo performances with a loss); and the women losing 3-1 to China.

Men beat Ukraine 2.5-1.5 with Adhiban again being the one decisive result, though he won this time. 7 games, 4 wins, 3 losses for him so far.

Women with a creditable draw with China 2-2 (though the round 6 loss to Russia and the poor loss to Ukraine hurting our medal prospects).

Men have a small chance at bronze if they can draw with Russia and Poland loses to China. The ladies will finish 4th unless China somehow loses to Poland.

No such luck as the men lost 1.5-2.5 to Russia. Negi with the loss with black but Vidit should have beaten Svidler but somehow blundered away from a very strong winning position. A win would have kept our medal chances alive and pushed his rating above 2700.

Both teams look like they will finish 5th.

edit: looks like he had a clear winning position on move 52 and somehow missed it under time pressure and then gave Svidler a draw with repetition, sigh. He has talent to be a 2730+ player but won't get there with frayed nerves.

Finished 3-1 against Norway today...

Women with an identical 3-1 win against Azeris...

The first round loss against Poland, the draw against Turkey and the loss against Russia - if any one of these results had been different and in India's favor, India would have ended up with a Medal...

Indian women however tied for 3rd, but probably lost on the tie-breaks...
