Re: Indian Shooting thread
Also Heena Siddhu and Jitu Rai won the newly introduced mixed team gold in 10M air pistol. 3 mixed team events in air rifle, air pistol and trap are being introduced as test events in this world cup. However, ISSF has said that it will recommend IOC to introduce these 3 events in next Olympics instead of double trap, 50 m pistol and 50m rifle prone. So, good start for us in this event.

Re: Indian Shooting thread
Jitu Rai is like Dhoni of shooting. He almost always starts slowly and ends with a bang and just scraps thru. Today, he just made it thru to the finals and then in the finals he was on the verge of first of being eliminated among 8 finalists. But, he just kept improving and others just kept faltering and Jitu won the bronze out of nowhere.
He did the same thing in Rio where he had to hit 7 perfet 10's in his last 7 shots in the qualification and he did it. Unfortunately, he could not do the same in final in the Olympics.

Re: Indian Shooting thread
This guy Jitu is an incredible shooter. Today, he comfortably went thru to the final. But, in final was lying 6th after more than half way mark with leader Amanpreet having a lead of 4+. After that Jitu just kept hitting scores of 10 + in each shot while those above him kept faltering including Amanpreet.
Also good to see a new name emerge to take the silver here.

Re: Indian Shooting thread
This was fantastic. Like you said, Jitu has now shown multiple times the ability to get more accurate at the end - a great quality. Finally, we have a good one in shooting. And a new name too. Looking forward to Jitu at the next Asiad and Olympics. Will keep an eye on Amanpreet too.

The guy is consistent; sadly he couldn't take it at the Olympics. I hope he keeps going like this and be mentally prepared for Tokyo

Jitu Rai and Heena Sidhu claimed another gold in the mixed team 10m air pistol event at ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol series being held in Gabala, Azerbaijan ... Jitu and Heena made excellent comeback from 0-4 to 7-6 to beat Russia.
They had also won gold at the ISSF World Cup held in New Delhi earlier this year ... Also the mixed team air pistol event is one of the new events added for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Re: Indian Shooting thread
Good performance by our team in this new event but this was still a test event.
Otherwise, it has been a couple of disappointing world cups for our shooters after a good one at home. Even someone like Jitu Rai failed to make the final in both his events after being in the lead more than half way thru. There were similar other cases. The need a mental trainer to work on this aspect.

Re: Indian Shooters thread
My wish comes true after almost a year as Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is now appointed new sports minister in the cabinet reshuffle. I think this is the first time that a sportsman has been appointed the sports minister. Hope something good comes out of this for Indian sports.

Re: Indian Shooting thread
Ronjan Singh Sodhi was very vocal about axing of Double trap by the ISSF from the Olympics cycle to maintain gender equality at the Games ... He blamed committee member Abhibnav for not pushing hard.
Bindra should have pushed double trap case: Sodhi

Re: Indian Shooting thread
Excellent start to 2018 for our shooters. On the first day of the first world cup of the year at Gudaljara,Mexico, we got 3 medals.
In mens 10M Air pistol, debutant 23 year old Shahzar Rizvi won the gold and ever consistent Jitu Rai got the bronze. Another of our shooter Om Prakash finished fourth. So, we had 3 shooters in top 4. Shahzar also posted a world record of 242.3 in the final.
In Womens 10M Air rifle, another debutant 17 year old Mehuli Ghosh got the bronze. Another Indian Anjum Modugil finished 4th while Apurvi Chandela finished 7th. Mehuli is considered to be one of the best talents in recent time and won an Asian junior gold last year.
We had 3 shooters in finals of both the events which is rare for any India or any other nation.
Hope we continue this success in this world cup and rest of the year.
