Neeraj Goyat lost his SF bout, but still in contention for a Rio berth. If he wins the box-off, he will qualify. :goodluck:

I think that text I had taken may be wrong. Kerry Hope is from Australia or at least representing Australia...

Now some light at the end of the tunnel for Indian boxing. Election process is underway for BFI(boxing federation of India). 5 vice-presidents and 2 Zonal Secretaries elected unopposed. Nominations completed for the other posts. But as in elsewhere, allegations galore for trying to buy votes or whatever.

Finally something good seems to have come out of the elections-

New federation takes charge of Indian boxing
The 51-year-old Singh, who was representing Uttarakhand, is an accomplished businessman credited for turning around the fortunes of Spicejet, an airlines he founded before selling off his majority stakes in 2005.

He bought back his share last year when the company was in dire straits and steered it towards profits. Singh is one of the Vice Presidents in the Uttarakhand Boxing Association.
Businessmen are still better than politicians. Hope he turns around Indian boxing like Spicejet which is what he promises -
“Our priority now will be to bring back boxing to where we were — in the top-10 in the world or even top-five. We should put behind the politics of last four years and focus on boxing, boxers, coaches etc. We will start conducting various Nationals now,” Singh said in a post-election press conference.

“We have plans to start a boxing league and have international competitions. We will formally seek affiliation from AIBA,”

Article on the former World Junior Champion - Nikhat Zareen

Some excerpts from her new coach, Ronald Simms: Article
“Also, another thing I have noticed, you only have state and National championships. You need more competitions which make one better. More the competitions, the better one gets. There are not enough competitions. They need to have more bouts against each other. The more you do, the sharper you become.”
“Nikhat has the potential to win a gold medal in the 2020 Olympics. I am with the JSW Sports, where she has all the things she needs for training. It is specifically for the Olympic Games.
“I am working in Vizianagaram, that's where our new institute would be (most likely in January). 2020 is here as far as training is concerned. I am going to bring in some younger athletes, 12 or 13-year-olds, and train them so that India can win medals in 2024. That's my main goal. All countries are now focused on 2024,” said Simms, who is also open to help out the National federation.

That is a nice article. We desperately need a few to emerge as contenders for medals in 2020 Olympics in boxing. After promising performances a couple of Olympics back, we have fallen behind in boxing mainly due to federation mess. Now as that seems to have been sorted, expect some uptick in performances over the next 4 years.

More of a case of a very strong few weeks in golf and badminton.

Golf

Week 40 saw Bhullar win Shinhan open in Korea.
Week 42 saw a return of form for Anirban with a 2nd place at the Venetian Macau Open
Week 43 saw Anirban lead a PGA tour event (CIMB classic) by 4 strokes after round 3 before a sad collapse on day 4 to finish 3rd.
Week 46 saw a double win with Aditi winning her maiden LET event at home in India and SSP win his fierrst tournament outside India at the Manila Masters
Week 47 saw Bhullar winning the Indonesia Open (Jeev finishing 2nd)
Week 48 saw Aditi winning back to back on the LET in Qatar

In badminton,
we had a double triumph at the Russia GP (Ruthvika winning her maiden title at this level and Pranaav/Sikki winning MxD; Siril reached his first final as well).
Sourabh winning MS at the Taipei Masters and then reaching the finals of the Bitburger GP Gold.
Ajay reaching the finals of the GP in Netherlands.

And of course, Sindhu winning her first SSP in China (her first at SS or SSP level) and now both her and Sameer making it to the finals of the HK SS event.
