I am shocked, how parents give so much mental burden to young children

Is Maria a disgrace or ITF for suspending her? I am not a huge Maria fan but I think there were some mitigating circumstances whereby they could have given a lesser ban.Tolamu wrote: What a disgrace.!

The mitigating circumstances seem shady. The only real defence perhaps is that this drug has not been shown to be harmful. So, a lot of Russians, etc. thought it was a supplement.

Given that the drug just entered the banned list, she may have deserved the benefit of doubt.

Add to it the fact that she has been using it for many years, and she had shown the evidence of it too. I am not a huge fan of Maria either, but this long a ban is really harsh and senseless.

Meldonium has been used as a masking agent for EPO for many years. It is about time tennis takes doping seriously.

I hope people here have read about the case. Here is an article that sort of explains why the ban: Guardian article The standard treatment is for 4-6 weeks. I think the substance was taken as a performance enhancer and perhaps the ban is fine.

She has been doping her entire career; there is an argument to be made that the ban is too little.prasen9 wrote:I hope people here have read about the case. There is a revealing line in the damning 33-page ruling against Maria Sharapova when her former doctor instructs her that “during games of special importance, you can increase your mildronate dose to 3-4 pills (1 hr before the match)”.
Games of special importance? It seems an extremely bizarre way to prescribe a substance supposedly aimed at treating a specific condition, rather than enhancing performance.
This is the same doctor who had Sharapova taking 18 remedies at the age of 18, and as many as 30 five years later. All that jumping around the court with so many pills inside her, it is a surprise that she did not rattle.

Serena is, without question, the greatest of all time on the women's side, with 22 Slam singles and 13 in doubles. Amazing! And the sisters have another doubles final coming up shortly!
