Rutuja Bhosale's Texas A & M lost in the second round 3-4 Stanford to end their season. With match at 3-3, 64th ranked Rutuja lost the deciding rubber against 46th ranked Davidson 64 26 46. Frankly, Rutuja's game does not seem to have progressed as expected in 3 years here so far. Hope she plays some pro tennis in the break.

Just came across another player of Indian origin - Anudeep Kodali Bio representing #2 ranked North Carolina in Men's tennis.

He seems to be playing for the team in the 6th position but I'm sure it is a wonderful opportunity for Anudeep to garner experience playing in a higher ranked team.

P.S Although it's too early to talk about this, I'm hoping Gautam's kids make it to top college tennis programs when they grow up :-)

Found this wonderful news just now! Rishab Agarwal has been honored with the Elite 90 award this year for his outstanding achievement in tennis and academics (GPA 4.0). I think he is on the right path something similar to our Somdev. I hope he makes use of all the experiences garnered to make it big on Pro tour. :goodluck:

In the NCAA individual championships, Kanika lost in the first round against the 5th seed but Rishab won his first round match.

At NCAA Championships- Singles

[R1] Kanika Vaidya (COL,43) l. (5) Elen Perez (GEO,5) 06 46

[R1] Rishab Agarwal (MSU,54) d. Jack Findel-Hawkins (NF,109) 36 64 76(1)

So, it looks Kankia's college tennis career is over. Rishab will play his second round against 4th seed .

[R2] Rishab Agarwal (MSU,54) vs. Aleks Vukic (ILL,4)

Report on Rishab's match yesterday is here -

Rishab played very close match with him but lost in third set tie break.

At NCAA Championships- Singles

[R2] Rishab Agarwal (MSU,54) l. Aleks Vukic (ILL,4) 67(8) 64 67(6)

This is the report -

Agarwal Caps Run At NCAA Singles Championship

It seems he had a chance to close out the match in third set but missed -
Agarwal took a 5-3 lead in the final deciding set, but Vukic would come back to take a 6-5 advantage. With his back against the wall Agarwal broke Vukic to send the third set to the match’s second tiebreaker. Agarwal would gain a 5-3 advantage in the tiebreaker, but the margin would close and then become tied at 6-6 before Vukic pulled ahead to win 7-6(6).
It could easily have been biggest upset of the tournament. :-(

Gotta feel for Rishab! Is this his first year in college? If yes, then he'll probably come back stronger next year and be a force to reckon with... :goodluck:

Very promising performance by Rishab, although he obviously must work on his temperament. When up 5-3 in the final set tiebreaker, you should be able to close it out (because the pressure is squarely on the opponent and the momentum with you).

Hmmm, not so sure about that PKB. Momentum may be with you but the pressure is definitely on you as well. He probably got tight and may not have played his usual game. Down 6-5, he didn't have much to lose and he wins that game. Working on temperament will help as you say but he must have really felt the pressure. This experience should make him stronger!

No, Rishab completed his junior year i.e 3rd year. But, he seems to have taken significant strides in his game this year as compared to first 2. He will most probably come back to complete his term next year. But, I would like to see him take a semester off and play pro tennis till end of this year to build up some decent points and ranking which will help him when he finally quits college scene a year from now.

In newly updated ITA Doubles Rankings OSU's Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe became the first doubles team in Oklahoma State history to achieve the top spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings ... Great achievement by Arjun as two season's back he reached #3 with his partner Jakob Sude.

These are pre season ranking. So, I guess something similar to ITF junior rankings at the start of the year when players of one particular year go out of rankings. Although it is still creditable, I would be more pleased if they have the #1 rankings towards the end of the season which would be really hard earned.

Btw, I do not see Rishab Agarwal anywhere in preseason rankings ( which he should have been based on his last season's rankings) . Has he left college after 3 years ?

Ronit Bisht in ranked #2 in Freshmen rankings. Hope he has a successful college career.

Rishab's university reopened on 16 August, but he is still playing Futures in India a month later. So he has either taken a semester (or more) off, or has dropped out of college -- which would be odd for someone with a 4.0 GPA (albeit from a pretty academically-mediocre university).
